Product Designer - Computational Platform (Chicago)
Passionate about precision medicine and advancing the healthcare industry?
Recent advancements in underlying technology have finally made it possible for AI to impact clinical care in a meaningful way. Tempus' proprietary platform connects an entire ecosystem of real-world evidence to deliver real-time, actionable insights to physicians, providing critical information about the right treatments for the right patients, at the right time.
We're on a mission to connect an entire ecosystem to redefine how genomic data is used in clinical and research settings. We're looking for designers who are passionate about changing the status quo and bringing cancer care and research into the 21st century.
What You'll Do:
As a Product Designer, you will be part of a team responsible for defining the experience of the Lens Computational Platform. We're looking for a passionate technical designer with a deep understanding of the product development process and is capable of executing a design from concept to development. The ideal candidate is someone with a research or data science background who is looking to transition to design, or a designer who has worked with data scientists or data science platforms.
You should be reliable, resilient and an excellent communicator. You are comfortable working closely with developers, product managers, data scientists, etc. You pay attention to details while still communicating and envisioning the ‘big picture’ of the product. You will research, design and implement experiences primarily for data scientists, translational researchers, and computational biologists analyzing data for cancer drug development at pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in user-centered design projects with highly technical internal and external stakeholders (data and machine learning scientists, computational biologists, translational researchers, infrastructure engineers, etc.)
- Think creatively about solving problems in existing or third-party tools
- Define and prototype your solutions, iterating quickly with your cross-functional team of engineers, product managers, computational biologists, data scientists, and other designers
- Manage timelines in an agile environment to deliver enterprise-grade products
- Evangelize human-centered design best practices across Tempus
We’re looking for:
- 2+ years of experience
- A portfolio showcasing excellent user experiences with platforms for technical users such as data science/computational platforms
- Familiarity with how users write code in Python, R, and SQL for analysis a huge plus
- Be willing to learn new concepts related to data science and cloud computing
- A degree or certificate in HCI, interaction design, or equivalent experience
- A strong emphasis on user-centered design principles
- Ability to learn how to balance long-term vision with details and quick iterations
- Strong organization and analytical thinking skills, with a track record of turning complex content into user scenarios and stories
- Scrappiness with a bias toward action and sharing ideas early and often
- Intellectual curiosity to pursue the unknown and to continuously learn
- A personal desire to build products that will save lives and change the course of cancer treatment
- Background or interest in Biology a plus
