Role: Production Designer
Location: Chicago, IL or Buffalo Grove, IL
Job Description and Background:
Zoro is hiring a Production Designer to join our growing creative team located in either Buffalo Grove or Chicago, IL. We are looking for someone who is passionate about great design and its role in the world of brand building. The ideal candidate is someone who can develop innovative concepts across multiple types of media; someone who seeks to improve their skills and actively seeks education, feedback and coaching to make their work better; someone who strives to remain current and expand their skill set to meet the evolving needs of the business. We are looking for a creative, outgoing individual that takes direction and construction critiques well and can work independently. This person must be able to accomplish daily tasks while having the vision to keep all creative branding consistent. This role requires a high degree of focus and attention to details, typography, and creating accurate layouts.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities:
The Zoro Production Designer’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Update existing design files and projects using established brand guidelines consistently and thoroughly across various collateral items, under the direction of the Designers
- Collect prepare and provide final production and organization of print and digital project files before final release
- Hands-on production, including layout and revision to catalogs, booklets, guides, packaging, cards, printed materials, web graphics and other projects assigned
- Building new versions/sizes of existing artwork
- Scaling, cropping, retouching, and repositioning of photos
- Editing photos and other design elements to fit the designated layout
- Adapting artwork based on project needs
- Ensuring artwork meets brand standards
- Assist Designers on various projects on an as-needed basis
Education & Experience
- BFA in Graphic Design or Visual Communications (or equivalent 4 year degree)
- 1+ years of experience as entry-level designer, being art directed and providing quality production design to fellow designers/colleagues
Preferred Skills and Attributes
- Strong knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Sketch; strong understanding of typography, layout and branding, and basic photo editing
- Knowledge of email creation and printing process in general
- Web and email design experience a plus
- Attention to detail and ability to organize files, including consistent file naming and folder structure
- Ability to learn and be mentored as needed on design and software skills
- Ability to be art directed and produce final design files quickly and efficiently
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Must be a proactive and enthusiastic team member
- Video editing or After Effects experience is preferred and a huge plus
