NowPow, whose name is a play on knowledge is power, is a women-owned and led technology business based on Chicago’s south side. NowPow’s multi-sided platform is a personalized community referral management solution that enables care professionals – social workers, physicians, justice workers – to manage and close the loop on health and social service referrals and also directly supports patients, members, and clients in their own self care. NowPow helps people get the care they need, whether they are managing chronic health and social conditions or just staying well.

The Role:

The Senior Product Designer plays an essential role in the development and continuous improvement of NowPow products. At NowPow, the Senior Product Designer creates end-to-end user experiences from conducting user research to rapid prototyping and working with product managers and engineers to make the new features a reality.

Key Responsibilities:

• Understand user base by owning knowledge of the user personas, workflows, and use cases to produce user experience concepts, including the definition of customer needs, task analysis, and the creation of user flows
• Plan and conduct user research to inform problem definition and pain points we want to solve
• Design end-to-end experiences utilizing a design thinking approach including observational studies, customer interviews, usability testing, cared sorting, and other forms of qualitative and quantitative research to uncover insights and learn about user behavior and verify design concepts
• Explore data that validates or invalidates ongoing product and design priorities and decisions
• Organize, recruit, and lead user testing sessions to gather feedback on prototypes for new functionality
• Create rapid iterations of design prototypes that can be frequently tested and validated with users
• Create high quality design materials including wireframes, mock-ups, live style guides, and design assets
• Collaborate across multiple teams to ensure that design specifications are implemented
• Assist with product roadmap development, communication, and collaborate with product managers to define requirements
• Refine processes and establish best practices for product design

Requirements:

• BA/BS required
• 2-4 years of relevant experience including proficiency in at least two of the following UX disciplines: User Research, Interaction Design/Information Architecture, Visual Design or Front-end development.
• Experience working in an agile software environment
• Solid understanding of the user-centered design process and UX best practices and methodologies
• Experience with rapid prototyping and working knowledge of design and prototyping tools, preferrably Adobe XD
• Experience guiding product decisions through user research and iterative feedback loops and collaborating closely with product managers
• Strong communication skills to present and explain design decisions to team, users and stakeholders and to advocate on behalf of our users
• Able to provide examples of previous projects in which you led the user research and the product design of the resulting solution
• Demonstrated passion for social entrepreneurship or leveraging technology to address social challenges

Recommended:

• Master's degree in UX Research and Design or Human-Computer Interaction
• Previous work on healthcare products
• Experience in a fast-paced start-up environment working with several product managers and development teams
• Experience in creating responsive designs for desktop, tablet, and mobile web apps
• Experience working with, contributing, or managing design systems and assets
• Superb communication skills to present designs to internal leadership and key innovation partners
