Job Summary:

If yes to the above, you are a perfect candidate for our Sr. Product Visual Designer within the RedShelf product group.

The Sr. Product Visual Designer is in charge of bringing the applications that RedShelf is creating to life through hi-fidelity designs and application flows. They are storytellers and makers who use design to bring product ideas to life, while remaining mindful of how products function. Participating within the RedShelf product development lifecycle, this individual will partner with various customers, product managers, stakeholders, and management to ensure our customers have a delightful experience with all RedShelf products through the application designs they create. This individual will report directly to the Vice President of Product.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Create and own the design decisions for RedShelf’s suite of platform products in accordance with the RedShelf Product Principles.

  • Be an advocate for and create simple application interfaces to solve complex problems.

  • Be the in-house expert on how to apply Material Design patterns to create consistent, self-learnable user experiences with the RedShelf suite of products.

  • Deliver designs that stretch the art of the possible, while also allowing the applications to be developed pragmatically.

  • Work with external design firms during any non-standard design spikes of work to ensure timely delivery for product teams.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years industry experience as a visual product designer or related discipline

  • Degree in Design (e.g. graphic design, visual communications, product design) or equivalent practical experience - must have a digital portfolio of work that demonstrates breadth, creativity, and innovation in UI design.

  • Experience collaborating, delegating, and directing the priority of design tasks to external vendors.

  • Capable of balancing multiple priorities and deadlines - from start to finish

  • Company expert with industry standard design & prototyping tools (Sketch, Illustrator, Photoshop, Invision, Zeplin, or some other wireframing/prototyping tool that communicates your ideas well and provides the required assets to your partners.)

  • Demonstrate extremely strong visual sensibilities, ability to use visual thinking, problem solving, storyboards, sketching, and communication design to create simple and breakthrough product experiences.

  • A deep understanding of fundamental visual design disciplines (typography, iconography, composition, color, composition, layout, etc.) and a strong command of industry best practices in interaction design, usability and accessibility.

  • Strong understanding of the intersection between data visualization and modern interface design, plus how to apply those across multiple device mediums (responsive)

  • Has the ability to rapidly understand new products and requirements, adapt quickly to the changing needs of the business, and quickly create continuity and cohesion if ambiguity exists.

  • Understands how to gather user feedback on designs when required, but also has the ability to work quickly using intuition, when necessary to proactively recognize UX/UI gaps in design and propose solutions.

  • Proven experience using Google’s Material Design library (https://material.io).

  • Experience with Accessible UI Design.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders, Product Managers, Directors, and Executives to convey conceptual ideas and design rationale - as well as defend and build consensus around team design direction.

  • Strong understanding of overarching design trends and industry best practices to sort opportunities from fads.

  • Comfortable giving and receiving critical design feedback.

  • Experience working within an Agile/Scrum SDLC.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Other Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Knowledge of Accessibility requirements (WCAG 2.0, A11Y) and accessible UI Design

  • Knowledge of Ember.js (or similar JavaScript such as React) Frameworks

  • Knowledge and appreciation of the advances in higher educational software, course materials, and digital publishing is a plus

  • Comfort and/or experience in a fast-paced, growing environment

  • Ideal candidate is self-sufficient and highly motivated, self-directed and possess high energy and a passion for RedShelf
