Description
This Value Chain Designer position is an exciting opportunity to help manage the end-to-end value chain for Caterpillar's iconic line-up of large bulldozers. It doesn't get any cooler than working on the Caterpillar D11! (And the D9 and D10 too!)
In this position, you will help manage changes to the value stream, work on new product launches, help ensure our products are delivered defect-free to our customers and drive for higher levels of quality in our supply chain, our products and our customer experience. This is a growing discipline and a challenging assignment.
This position will support acquiring information and data to assemble the network. The network data and information reside in several different corporate databases and the Value Chain Designer must be fluent in at least 1 with the ability to learn others. This will include the structure in physical flows, quantification of network variability (process time, transit time, delivery performance, etc.), the Value Chain Designer will iterate the model as proposed business scenarios are created by the team. The network model will be comprehensive and aligned to the network of a global product line. The network will extend through our distribution partners and include elements of the end-customer experience.
Once a network is created, the Value Chain Designer will participate in the S&OP Process, including Production and Aftermarket requirements, to help develop the inventory and resource plans on an on-going basis. The Value Chain Designer will make recommendations that support current and future Points-in-Cycle using a Business Cycle Management approach.
Job responsibilities typically include:

  • The incumbent will perform detailed value stream network modeling / optimization, which will be used to support value chain performance project management.
  • This role demonstrates advanced skills and expertise on value stream modeling and design
  • The incumbent supports other members of the value chain design team to help to identify OIA opportunities, solve problems and resolve model feasibility gaps.
  • This role is responsible for posting, publishing and presenting, modeling results into relevant and insightful Business information, visuals, and business cases.
  • This role will support business and operational decisions of both internal and external value chain partners, by providing data-backed proposals to drive continuous improvements across the overall value stream.
  • The incumbent provides support to value chain teams responsible for the management of end-to-end value chain functions in alignment with customer Order-to-Delivery requirements.
  • This role is accountable to maintain strong expertise in network modeling processes, platforms and techniques for the Enterprise.
  • The incumbent is responsible for working to maintain and strengthen communications and alignment between logistics and manufacturing activities, as well as driving collaboration between all members of the enterprise value chain network.
  • This role identifies and supports value chain performance improvements, including quality and delivery performance improvements and the supplier S&OP process.
  • The incumbent will work closely with relevant functional areas.


The successful incumbent will possess:

  • Ability to understand and translate business and process conditions into feasible value stream models
  • Ability to transform large data sets into meaningful and accurate model inputs, specifically EBOMs and MBOMs, Business Financial Models, Internal and External Operations and Manufacturing Processes, Inbound and Outbound Logistics, and Aftermarket data
  • Ability to translate models and scenarios into well-developed business case proposals and OIA projects.
  • Understanding ERP systems' lead time elements (supply chain, manufacturing and marketing)
  • Understanding product cost rollups and partial value stream costs
  • Value stream mapping experience to help support end-to-end network modeling.
  • Ability to work with cross functional teams globally and gather data for model building.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills throughout the Cat network, such as global facilities, transportation organizations, marketing, accounting, etc.
  • Ability to apply value stream models to extended applications within Caterpillar's value stream processes.
  • Very strong end-to-end supply base understanding, including customers and dealers
  • Ability to ramp up quickly within a new environment


Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 7+ years of experience.

The location for this position is East Peoria, IL
Relocation assistance is not available for this position. Any relocation costs incurred would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
This position requires 10% to 40% of travel
