Passionate about making a difference in the world of cancer genomics?

With the advent of genomic sequencing, we can finally understand our genetic makeup. We now have more data than ever before but providers don't have the infrastructure or expertise to make sense of said data. Here at Tempus, we are building the infrastructure to modernize cancer treatment. By analyzing a patient’s genetic data in the context of molecular therapies, Tempus empowers physicians to make real-time data-driven decisions in the clinic based on the comprehensive computational analysis of a patient’s unique pathology.

We're on a mission to connect an entire ecosystem to redefine how genomic data is used in clinical settings. We're looking for designers who are passionate about changing the status quo and bringing cancer care into the 21st century.

About the role

We’re looking for a Visual Designer to join our growing design team. You’ll be a part of a team dedicated to defining and implementing the Tempus design system. You’re a strong visual designer with experience turning complex problems into simple design solutions.

Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you’ll be responsible for creating simple, digestible, elegant patient reports that are consistent across all products and diseases.  These results are a critical piece of our product offering and help outline potential treatment options for patients so they can develop a personalized treatment plan.

You have exceptional design skills, and are extremely organized with pixel-perfect standards and excellent attention to detail. You understand the importance of designing for accessibility and usability.

You’re a self-starter and thrive in a fast-paced environment with lots of ambiguity. You’re curious and eager to learn and understand the Tempus landscape and our users.

You’re passionate about creating products and experiences that make a difference and directly impact the lives of patients.

You’re comfortable working with expert stakeholders to translate complex scientific concepts into beautiful, digestible designs.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including other designers, engineers, product, and science to design and develop simple, digestible, elegant patient reports.
  • Build a durable, scalable, holistic design system to elevate the quality of our patient results across multiple diseases.
  • Craft flexible, accessible design standards and components with thoughtful, succinct documentation.
  • Work with key stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand and interpret user needs across multiple personas and diseases.
  • Learn and adapt quickly through iterative prototyping.
  • Be a design systems advocate. Communicate conceptual ideas and design rationale to design, engineering, and product. Support other designers on how to best use our design systems.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in visual or product design.
  • A design portfolio with exceptional visual design and expertise in fundamental graphic design skills (layout, visual hierarchy, typography, color, iconography).
  • Proficiency in design and prototyping tools including Figma, Sketch, Invision, and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience collaborating with engineers, designers and product managers.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with other designers, product managers, engineers, and key stakeholders.
  • Ability to conduct, extract, and interpret user feedback to make intentional, user-centered design decisions, and articulate rationale to influential and technical stakeholders, including scientists and medical professionals.
  • Ability and willingness to learn from your colleagues about scientific concepts outside of your area of expertise.
  • Experience working with design systems with the ability to develop thorough, detailed documentation around design specifications and usage
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced work environment and able to manage multiple complex projects in a timely manner.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Plus - experience in healthcare or biotechnology.

What are some things you learned at the company?

One of the things that molded my growth was seeing how much thought goes into the decisions, and how much leadership seeks feedback from the people around them, to help understand the impact of decision-making.
