The primary purpose of this position is to deliver a great consumer experience online through the development of software and maintenance of the mission critical ADUSA eCommerce core platform. The role drives the continued Azure cloud adoption and enablement of our engineering teams. With expert-level skills and the ability to lead complex, high-impact projects, this engineer will play a critical role in establishing and optimizing cloud infrastructure. This includes ensuring that our engineering teams leverage fully automated, scalable, and cost-efficient solutions while adhering to best practices in monitoring, logging, and operational culture. By collaborating with key stakeholders, this engineer will help define and execute the roadmap for a more efficient cloud adoption, advancing our strategic goals and enabling seamless, secure deployments across the organization. Their leadership will foster innovation and guide teams in implementing robust, cutting-edge cloud solutions that drive business transformation. They will help guard and maintain the software through architecture and design reviews and ensure that software is being built to address the scale and business needs to come.
Our flexible/ hybrid work schedule includes 3 in-person days at one of our core locations and 2 remote days. Our core office locations include Salisbury, NC , Chicago, and IL, Quincy, MA.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as the subject matter expert for GitHub and GitHub Copilot, driving configuration, usage optimization, and adoption across engineering teams.
- Proactively manage and optimize GitHub platform features, including Actions, branch protection rules, code review policies, security integrations, CODEOWNERS, and merge strategies, in partnership with security, compliance, and infrastructure teams.
- Lead initiatives to automate repository provisioning, improve PR templates, and deliver a consistent, high-quality developer experience.
- Develop, test, deploy, and optimize Infrastructure as Code (IAC) and configuration management code in Azure (Azure DevOps), while aligning repository and workflow standards in GitHub.
- Translate requirements into technical solutions that maximize value from GitHub, Copilot, Azure, and related technologies.
- Act as an internal advocate for GitHub Copilot, developing onboarding materials, promoting best practices, monitoring usage analytics, and integrating Copilot into existing engineering workflows.
- Champion high developer productivity and code quality by leveraging GitHub's evolving capabilities and Copilot's AI-powered coding assistance.
- Ensure sufficient logging, monitoring, alerting, and observability for CI/CD pipelines and developer workflows managed through GitHub and Azure.
- Provide expert guidance and engineering design review to teams adopting core platforms, focusing on strategic improvements rather than reactive fixes.
- Coordinate and facilitate communication between cross-functional teams to resolve technical conflicts and promote best practices in GitHub and Copilot usage.
Qualifications
- BS/MS or equivalent experience in Computer Science.
- 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering, systems engineering, or DevOps.
- 3+ years working with GitHub configuration and management, including advanced features (Actions, branch protection, CODEOWNERS, security integrations).
- Deep experience with Azure Cloud platform, Azure DevOps pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM/Bicep templates, etc.).
- Proven experience with configuration management tools such as Salt, Ansible, or Chef.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes is a plus.
- Experience with at least one scripting language.
- Demonstrated ability to drive adoption of new developer tools and advocate for best practices (especially GitHub Copilot).
- Proven collaboration with security, compliance, and infrastructure teams to align platform configuration and governance.
- Strong commitment to openness, diversity of opinions, and inclusive discussions to evaluate a wide variety of ideas and perspectives.
