About Alpen Labs

Alpen Labs is a New York-based startup founded in 2022 by four MIT alumni. Our mission is to build universal rails for money by creating a scalable, private and programmable Bitcoin ecosystem. We're achieving this through cutting-edge innovations in zero-knowledge cryptography and offchain solutions, without compromising Bitcoin's fundamental principles.

This endeavor is not just about technological advancement but a step towards a more resilient, free, and prosperous global society. Our current team consists of engineers and researchers from companies like Blockstream Research, Palantir, and Nethermind. We invite passionate individuals to join us in navigating this complex, yet rewarding journey towards redefining financial sovereignty.

Role Overview

As a DevOps Engineer, you’ll be responsible for building, deploying, and maintaining resilient cloud infrastructure to support our blockchain ecosystem. This role requires deep expertise in cloud-native technologies, infrastructure as code (IaC), automation, and Rust-based systems.

You will work closely with blockchain engineers, Rust developers, and security teams to ensure our decentralized applications run smoothly, securely, and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Your duties will vary but here are a few examples of the type of work you’ll be doing;

Infrastructure Automation & Management

  • Design, implement, and maintain cloud-based infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or self-hosted).
  • Use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation.
  • Automate deployments, monitoring, and scaling with CI/CD pipelines.

Rust-Based Systems Optimisation

  • Work closely with Rust developers to optimise performance and security of infrastructure supporting Rust-based applications.
  • Debug and improve networking, logging, and containerised Rust applications.

CI/CD & Deployment Pipelines

  • Design and maintain automated deployment pipelines for Rust-based services.
  • Optimise containerisation strategies using Docker, Kubernetes, and Nomad.
  • Integrate GitOps workflows for continuous delivery.

Monitoring & Incident Response

  • Set up and maintain observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog).
  • Implement logging and tracing (OpenTelemetry, Loki, Elastic Stack).
  • Participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents quickly.
What We’re Looking For

Must-Have Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years of DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Cloud Engineering experience.
  • Rust experience: Familiarity with debugging, optimizing, and supporting Rust-based applications.
  • Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Nomad).
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, Jenkins).
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) (Terraform, Pulumi, Ansible).
  • Deep understanding of Linux systems, networking, and security.
  • Experience setting up monitoring, logging, and alerting systems.

Nice-to-Have (Bonus Points!)

  • Experience with Bitcoin, Ethereum, or blockchain infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of zero-knowledge cryptography & privacy-enhancing technologies.
  • Proficiency in distributed systems & high-performance computing.
  • Familiarity with Rust async runtimes (Tokio, async-std) and embedded Rust.
What we offer:

What we extend to our new hires is an invitation to actively contribute to the evolution of cutting-edge technologies within the blockchain space. This presents a unique opportunity to innovate and devise creative solutions for complex engineering challenges. To support your journey, we commit to providing all the resources necessary for your learning, growth, and productivity.

Moreover, our compensation package is designed to mirror the passion, dedication, and hard work you invest in your role. We recognize and appreciate your contributions by aligning your exceptional commitment with generous compensation.
