Job Description:

Relish Labs, LLC (d/b/a Home Chef) seeks Director of Supply Chain at its facility located at Chicago, IL. The Director of Supply Chain will lead supply chain management at Home Chef including packaging and indirect procurement, provide input to in-home experience for all Packaging (Non-Food), logistics management, network strategy, lean supply chain operations and supply chain information technology.

  • For packaging and indirect procurement, s/he will lead a team of 4 category buyers and analysts, while framing the strategic vision for all packaging products sent to customers.
  • S/he will manage risk by reducing lead times and delivering 100% packaging product availability to plants within tight inventory constraints.
  • S/he will set strategic vision for Home Chef customer experience in packaging.
  • S/he will be accountable for financial targets in non-food and drive savings across total cost of ownership for all non-food categories to deliver against aggressive targets.
  • S/he will build and manage team of 3-4 direct reports, with strong focus on training and mentorship.
  • S/he will define sourcing strategy by category in order to support strategic opportunities which will improve packaging customer experience, building partnerships with suppliers, and managing availability risk.
  • S/he will lead team in driving end-to-end sourcing process for non-food products, from developing suppliers and negotiating bids to awarding business and managing supplier performance.
  • S/he will own key supplier relationships and manage strong communications, while supporting the team in managing day-to-day interactions with suppliers.
  • S/he will drive data-led negotiations, visibility into supplier performance, and accountability across the organization.
  • S/he will manage inventory system and reporting at three plant locations across the US and in-house printing production. 
  • S/he will drive product improvements with culinary and production teams to reduce lead times, rationalize product specs, and improve efficiency.
  • S/he will work seamlessly across multiple functions within the organization, from plant production and quality assurance to corporate finance and marketing teams. For logistics management s/he will directly lead 2-3 managers responsible for managing warehousing excellence and both inbound and outbound transportation.
  • S/he will be responsible for developing and implementing customer transportation strategy to ensure on time delivery of product to customers.
  • S/he will drive projects to derisk the customer delivery process and drive savings in cost of transportation.
  • S/he will evaluate alternate options for customer delivery and develop business cases and proof of concept for new options.
  • S/he will drive customer experience by increasing geographical coverage and delivery days for customers.
  • S/he will develop a team of 1-2 transportation category managers, with strong focus on training and mentorship.
  • S/he will be responsible for design, implementation and improvement of receiving, putaway, picking and cycle counting processes.
  • S/he will be responsible for deployment of lean initiative to the warehouse teams.
  • S/he will mentor and develop the warehouse teams including a national warehousing manager and warehousing teams at all sites.
  • S/he will be responsible for evaluating the network on an annual basis or based on triggers like changes in business plans or mergers and acquisitions, to recommend building of new facilities or capacity augmentation at existing facilities.
  • S/he will drive execution of the network changes and build out.
  • S/he will be responsible for delivering supply chain automation solutions across procurement, supply chain planning, warehouse management, production planning and control and shipping.
  • S/he will develop a team of 3-4 product managers to drive automation and information technology at all stages of the supply chain.
  • S/he will drive business requirement discovery and documentation, make vs buy decisions, product selection and project execution.
  • S/he will drive design and installation of equipment required to optimize shipping lines and software integration to control the equipment.
  • S/he will supervise 6 direct employees (Senior Manager non food supply chain; Director of Logistics; Operations Technology Product Manager (3); and Supply Chain Strategy Manager) and 15 indirect employees (Strategic sourcing Manager; Junior Buyer (2); Purchasing Specialist; Purchasing analyst; Purchasing Intern (3); Warehousing Analyst; Warehouse Managers (3); and Logistics category manager).
  • Travel to fulfillment centers and supplier sites throughout the U.S. and abroad. Total travel and telecommuting 20%

Requirements

  • Masters degree or foreign equivalent in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field and at least 5 years of experience with procurement, supply chain management, lean six sigma, project and program management, and managing teams.
  • Additionally, applicant must have at least 5 years of professional experience in each of the following: (1.) Developing cost models for packaging, direct materials and services in Excel and using in sourcing strategy decisions and make vs buy decisions; (2.) Developing network analysis models in excel to drive network evaluation and optimization; (3.) Driving savings across total cost of ownership for direct material, indirect and packaging material, and service categories; (4.) Defining sourcing and design to value strategies for improving customer experience while increasing operating margin; (5.) Mechanization and automation of production lines; (6.) Designing and delivering information technology solutions for core operational processes, managing the software development lifecycle from business requirements to go live; (7.) Developing operations strategy and presenting to executive management, either in a consulting role or as part of an internal consulting team; (8.) Driving business process improvement using lean and six sigma methodologies; and (9.) Optimizing logistics processes including warehousing and transportation.
