The Engineering Team

The Role

The Testing Operations Manager plans, directs, designs, and executes software engineering activities and programs that are of a complex and critical nature. The Testing Operations Manager selects, leads, counsels, motivates, sets expectations and evaluates medium to large teams. Additionally they confer with and advise direct reports on administrative policies and procedures, risks, issues, problem resolution, sourcing decisions, budget and priorities. This person also assists in defining, implementing and prioritizing software engineering policies, procedures, and best practices. The Testing Operations Manager impacts team and business results.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day to day operations of the testing team of test strategists, automation specialists and testers
  • Seek to ensure that 30+ scrum product teams are appropriately staffed with testing resources
  • Work to enable, facilitate, de-block, etc., testing activities on scrum teams
  • Coordinate human and technical resources to ensure proper coverage on teams
  • Problem-solve
  • Work with the Testing Sr. Strategist to achieve testing roadmap goals implemented
  • Stay abreast of modern testing methods, strategies, roles, and tools.
  • Partner with testing and engineering leadership to manage to a budget
  • Understand all of the factors that contribute to software quality throughout the SDLC
  • Be people focused and be able to articulate their approach to working with, motivating, coaching, and growing individuals and teams while meeting business goals
  • Understand their multi-leveled customers and be able to demonstrate how their needs are met
  • Be diplomatic
  • Manage multiple "balls in the air"
  • Working with the Sr. Strategist to implement organizational change
  • Development and implementation of training programs
  • Re-tooling and re-skilling teams and individuals including assisting others in career development

Qualifications

  • Have a systems software rather than an application software orientation
  • Experience managing in a multiple-continent environment crossing broad cultural and timezone differences
  • Extensive software testing experience in one or more platforms (Mobile, APIs, Big Data, etc)
  • Comfort in operating in a cloud environment preferred
  • Knowledge and/or experience in modern testing methods, strategies, roles, and tools
  • Experience in Agile SCRUM
  • General technical knowledge and/or experience in multiple areas (Mobile, Linux, DB, Networking, Etc.)
  • 5-10 years people management experience including:
  • Performance management
  • Hiring and development of team members
  • Experience functioning in a delivery focused team or role
  • Experience leading organizational change, winning the hearts and minds, and enabling transformation
  • Experience implementing training programs and strategies
  • Experience being an evangelist
