Job Description Summary
We're in search of an Associate Director, Web Development to be a technical leader and to scale agile engineering teams responsible for the development of complex, yet beautiful, enterprise applications. You are a remote employee or part of our hybrid workforce in our Los Angeles office. You'll use the latest web standards in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, as well as utilizing .NET Core to develop websites and web applications that scale and perform well on all devices. The position reports to the VP, Engineering and will partner closely with others in senior management as well as DevOps and SRE teams to build modern software solutions that service hundreds of thousands of end-users.
Job Duties
We expect that you'll come in first trying to learn as much as possible about the organization. We encourage deep curiosity and continuous learning. Observe, absorb, talk to people. Identify strengths and weaknesses and then make a diagnosis on what we're doing well, and what needs improvement. Use this time to build relationships with our UX and PM leaders and dev teams to ensure alignment.
We need you to innovate. You're here to help us plan and build out the future as we continue to grow. You'll create a vision and technical strategy for the team and collaborate with key stakeholders to move your vision forward. You'll need to have difficult conversations and clear obstacles to help your team propel forward in executing this vision.
You should be passionate about developing your teams and individuals. Having one-on-ones, coaching sessions, providing mentorship and giving critical feedback. You need to level up your team while simultaneously leveling up the product. You'll drive engineering quality and excellence. You'll raise the bar across the team.
Qualifications

  • You are an expert in frontend technologies with over 10 years of experience. You have a deep understanding of Angular and other component-based framework like React or Vue. You're able to keep up with changes in the evermoving JavaScript landscape and identify valid trends vs fads. Highly technical discussions and architectural solutions are one of your strengths.
  • You have proven ability to provide strategic direction by asking the right questions of your teams and guiding them to focus their efforts where they can have the biggest impact.
  • You have experience with designing and building highly scalable and fault tolerant microservices using modern platforms such as Kubernetes and Service Fabric. The roles and responsibilities of these services are clearly defined and have well documented APIs.
  • You have scaled, built and managed multiple technical teams with over 5 years of experience in management. You see their functions holistically and encourage cross-team collaboration.
  • You are data driven. You rely on sound data to make decisions, and you expect the same from your teams. You believe in setting success metrics, goals, and timelines.
  • You have proven ability to prepare and present architectural artifacts such as diagrams and specifications.
