Description
Construction Digital & Technology (CD&T) leads Construction Industries to define, develop, deploy & support Site Autonomy systems. Site Autonomy systems comprised of (1) increasingly automated and autonomous capable machines, (2) line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight remote control systems and (3) site autonomy supervisory control systems along with insights to maximize site productivity at the customers jobsites.
The CD&T Site Autonomy Systems Engineering team is accountable to transform Market requirements to Product Functional Requirements and collaborate with machine product groups, ICS and Cat Digital internal engineering teams & external partners to deliver and maintain an end-to-end site-level system meeting time, cost & quality deliverables for the products. The Site Automation & Autonomy Systems Lead will lead the engineering workstream within the New Program Introduction (NPI) programs and be accountable for the end-to-end product performance, safety, reliability, regulatory compliance, consistency, efficiency, and ease-of-use. Delivering the solution includes hardware, software, site infrastructure, cloud solutions, and overall customer experience.
Job Duties
Meet New Technology Introduction (NTI) and New Product Introduction (NPI) program time, cost, and quality metrics
Apply good business acumen to make trade-offs between customer requirements, business constrains, and technology capabilities.
Understand the commercial roadmap for customer offerings and dealer capabilities
Lead the development and maintenance of product functional and technical requirements from project concept through production and maintenance working with the market team, select customers and the technical delivery teams.
As a hands-on product expert, lead technical product development execution through the V-Cycle with site-level FMEAs, site-level application, virtual proving ground site simulation testing, machine proving ground testing, and customer site testing to ensure requirement traceability, regulatory, safety & quality standards, and customer experience expectations are met.
Define and track technical product-level metrics and guidelines used to measure program success. Pro-actively manage, track & report on the technical risks on the end-to-end site autonomy products.
Lead, coordinate and collaborate with cross-functional, cross-organizational teams that spans the globe through project reviews, FMEAs, report status, coordination meetings, as well as defining/ improving/ implementing processes
Manage product cost and project life-time R&D budget forecast and track actuals for site-level solution as well as the sub-system roll-up
Develop and align the roadmap to the industry keeping up to date with the latest trends and emerging technology in automation and autonomy
Collaborate closely with service engineering and technical product support teams to ensure that the end-to-end product is fully supportable by the customer, dealer and Caterpillar support teams.
Participate as part of the larger CD&T system engineering team through collaboration, alignment, commonality / re-use of components & technologies, and best practices
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Robotics, or Computer Science from an accredited college or university
At least 8 years' experience relevant to this role
Demonstrated ability to lead teams to develop products through a large matrix organization
Demonstrated proficiency in troubleshooting & problem solving
Experience working with robotics systems and/or automation/autonomy technology for heavy machinery
Experience leading teams in technology development
Experience with machine data acquisition and analysis tools
Top Candidates will also have
An Advanced Degree in Engineering, Robotics, or Computer Science
Vehicle control, ECUs, Networks & Protocols (ie CAN, J1939) experience
Experience leading teams to develop software and solutions
Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills
Proven team leadership and project leadership skills
Global product development experience
Experience with safety systems and regulations
Additional Information
The location for this position is Clayton, NC or Peoria, IL
Domestic relocation is available for this position.
This position may require up to 20% travel (domestic & international).
