STATS is the Moneyball company. We pioneered the world of sports data and analytics and have helped drive almost every major shift in our industry – from digital box-scores, to fantasy games, to live mobile scores access, to optical tracking and advanced analytics. We even won a Supreme Court case. We have more data than anyone (and sports video too), and our mission is to collect all of the sports data in the world and make it available, interesting, useful, and even beautiful. We exist to make sure our partners – from the most successful tech, social, search, media, league and team organizations in the world to new innovative start-ups – have access to that data in real-time to power experiences for billions of fans and improve performance on the court, field or pitch. We want to apply our advantages in data, data science, video, computer vision and machine learning to power new ways to use, design, display data and video to experience, understand, improve, and predict sports.

The Role:

To bring our vision to life, we are seeking a Chief Technology Officer. This position is a central leadership role that is responsible for overall product vision as well as engineering the software that powers our products. This role includes end-to-end management of the global product roadmap and engineering organization, focusing on both our current suite of data-driven products, fantasy games, performance software, media and broadcast experiences, as well as new experiences for fans, players, teams, and betting companies. The CTO will manage a global team of roughly 115 product managers, designers, developers, architects, data scientists, and QA engineers.

The ideal candidate will be a true technologist, experienced with both legacy and next generation frameworks. He or she will also have demonstrable experience accelerating talent and building cohesive, world class product and engineering organizations. Experience with data and SaaS business models is a must; sports knowledge or direct industry experience is a plus.

The position reports to the CEO and directly assists on all strategic, policy, and tactical matters as they relate to company performance, department supervision, budgeting and control, and financial performance within the product organization. In addition to providing leadership and oversight to the technical architecture at STATS, this critical member of the executive team will be define and connect our company, product development and sales/marketing strategies in order to drive the next generation of growth at STATS. This individual will also interact with the Board of Directors and be involved in M&A activities including acquisition integration.

What You'll Do:

  • Establish the company's technical vision and ensure alignment with business objectives and revenue goals
  • Create and maintain the backlog of market-driven company product initiatives, including the continuous identification, scoring, and stack-ranking of market opportunities
  • Work closely with Program Management and Engineering to help drive technical product strategy, execution, and delivery
  • Define and deliver the global product roadmap collaborating with internal and external partners
  • Collaborate with other department heads, such as marketing, sales and operations
  • Establish engineering KPIs and ensure engineering standards and best practices are met
  • Drive transformation and deliver highly scalable platforms, advancing cloud-based Software-as-a-Service offerings and features
  • Lead strategic planning to achieve business goals by identifying and prioritizing development initiatives and setting timetables for the evaluation, development and deployment of services and products
  • Be an inspirational leader and develop a team of highly talented and proactive technologists
  • Communicate progress and remove roadblocks with stakeholders and partner with the Executive team
  • Above all, deliver strong and compelling market-leading products that drive growth in users and bookings

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent
  • 15+ years of progressively responsible engineering management experience with day-to-day operations within software, technology, or technology consulting and services organizations.
  • 15+ years of practical, hands-on, and deep, diverse experiences running up and down the technology spectrum from C++, VB6, WinForms, .NET, C#, Java, Oracle, Multi-Tenant web based applications, up to the latest trends in technology including microservices, machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data, open source technologies and cloud PaaS offerings.
  • Additional hands on expertise covering cloud technologies (datacenters, IaaS, PaaS, cloud transformations, vendors, and appropriate use cases)
  • Demonstrated experience shipping multiple large-scale commercial application, data and/or software products from concept to release
  • Experience managing a formal P&L for a business unit or product line
  • Passion for simple, smart, beautiful product experiences
  • Proven experience developing & managing products
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a large enterprise software company through a complex technology modernization project
  • Successful experience leading the development of enterprise application frameworks
  • Experience developing and shipping enterprise software applications or services from inception to delivery.
  • Proven, enterprise-scale Executive with experience migrating products from on-premises to cloud
  • Expertise in Agile development, test automation, continuous integration, and SaaS performance and scalability
  • Strong financial skills and an ability to develop business cases
