OVERVIEW

Coding Dojo Chicago is looking for a talented, dynamic go-getter who has a knack for delivering top-notch training for one of its newest and most exciting programs in partnership with The Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel called Chicago Codes.

Please note this position has full time hours and will start as an 8 month contract with the potential to extend. 

Launching this year with support from The Rockefeller Foundation, Facebook, and Microsoft, Chicago Codes will identify untapped tech talent in Chicago and offer enrollment in a rigorous, tuition-free coding academy in a high need community on Chicago's south side. Students will complete industry-approved curriculum, secure software development internships with local firms and ultimately move on to permanent employment. Chicago Codes is designed to meet the growing demand for computer programmers and software developers in Chicago while helping tech employers with the challenge of recruiting a diverse workforce.

 

DESCRIPTION

The Instructor is responsible for providing instruction in multiple programming languages, mainly Python/Django/Flask to a cohort of students. The Instructor will monitor student success and provide 1:1 guidance as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare students for success by providing coaching in all aspects of their journey towards becoming critical thinkers and problem solvers

  • Day to day instruction of students, following a well-curated curriculum, supplemented with your own professional experiences

  • Implement state law policies relating to career / vocational schools, such as enforcing student attendance, the grading of assignments, etc.

  • Gather and report on student metrics

  • Participate in occasional project and curriculum development, as well as curriculum refinement

  • Participate in campus activities, including but not limited to:
    orientation, open houses, student events, graduations, and tech talks on topics of your interest

  • Participate in professional training, so you stay fresh!

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

You must have proficient web programming experience.

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science or related degree from an accredited college or university (preferred)

  • Teaching experience a big plus.

  • 1 - 3 years of strong professional experience in Python and Django
