Job Description
What you get to do in this role:
As a Build and Release Engineer, you will be part of a team that is creating the next generation build and release platform (heavily cloud-based in AWS using EKS / Kubernetes / Docker with thousands of instances under management) for ServiceNow. We need your expertise to help support, troubleshoot, and improve the underlying infrastructure, software, processes, and services required to enable enterprise scale software development, quality engineering, and production releases. This includes the following responsibilities:
- Provision, monitor, and manage cloud infrastructure in AWS using cutting-edge Infrastructure-as-Code methods and to scale the Build and Release Platform.
- Support the Build and Release platform for a fast-growing development organization with over 5000 engineers.
- Administer and maintain source code management and build tools (GitHub / Jenkins / Maven / Nexus).
- Manage all aspects of the infrastructure – including O/S and application patching, critical data backup, and operating performance.
- Triage and prioritize requests and incidents to ensure appropriate response within SLAs.
- Troubleshoot, resolve problems, perform root cause analysis, and document solutions to improve time to discovery / time to resolution.
- Propose improvements to the build pipeline, tools, and processes – and collaborate with others both within and beyond the Build Engineering team to implement those improvements.
- Identify recurring problems, opportunities for self-healing, and then automate as appropriate.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role you have:
- 1+ years hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure automation, build & deployment processes, and configuration management
- Strong Linux and networking skills
- Proficiency in one or more scripting languages
- Experience in source code management and branching
- Understanding of automated build and release systems
- Passion for automation, continuous improvement, and DevOps culture
- Clear communication skills, both in person and in writing
- Security and compliance minded
- Fluency in the software development lifecycle
- A strong commitment to customer service
Qualifications:
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale development environment
- Experience managing, debugging, and improving build systems
- Experience with agile methodologies
- Fluency in one or more of the following technologies:
- Git / GitHub
- Maven / Nexus
- Python / Ruby / Perl / Shell Scripting
- Jenkins
- Amazon Web Services
- Chef
- Linux (CentOS/Fedora/RedHat)
- Kubernetes / Docker

Work Personas
Work personas are categories that are assigned to employees depending on the nature of their work. Employees will fall into one of three categories: Remote, Flexible or Required in Office.
Required in Office
A required in office work persona is defined as an employee who is contracted to work from or aligned to a ServiceNow-affiliated office. This persona is required to work from their assigned workplace location 100% of the work week based on the business needs of their role.
Flexible
A flexible work persona is defined as an employee who is contracted to work from or aligned to a ServiceNow-affiliated office and will work from their assigned workplace location roughly 3 days/week or less (generally around 40-60% of the work week). Flexible employees may choose to work the remaining working time from their workplace location or home. Flexible employees are required to work within their state, province, region, or country of employment.
Remote
A remote work persona is defined as an employee who performs their responsibilities exclusively outside of a ServiceNow workplace and is not contracted or aligned to a ServiceNow-affiliated office, including those whose place of work (pursuant to their terms and conditions of employment) is their home. Remote employees are required to work within their state, province, region, or country of employment.
