Director of Hardware Engineering
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Director of Hardware Engineering at Inventables will provide technical and strategic leadership to a small and growing engineering team building innovative hardware solutions for new, and existing, 3D Carving Machine product lines. As a member of the executive leadership team, you’ll help lead a VC backed growth stage company. Reporting to the CEO, the position will partner closely with Product Management and Software Engineering to deliver a new generation of accessible, and easy to use, manufacturing tools that are expanding and transforming the manufacturing industry.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Build, manage, and mentor our hardware and firmware engineering team
Prioritize and address departmental needs
Suggest and implement product and process improvements to reduce cost and increase quality, reliability, and efficiency
Communicate relevant technical details to stakeholders throughout the organization
Present to our board of directors
Lead the creation of schedules and project milestones
Identify potential engineering or manufacturing issues early in the design process
Evaluate and select Contract Manufacturers to build current products and launch new ones
Prioritize and address issues with current fielded products
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Apply engineering expertise to product requirements definition process
Provide feedback for improvement of technical designs
Partner with sourcing to evaluate component suppliers
Facilitate creation of documentation for efficient communication of designs
Maintain projects and manage change utilizing our PLM system
Facilitate creation and execution of test and validation plans
Partner with product owners to participate in customer research
Stay abreast of new technologies, industry trends, and methods for cost effective and efficient design and manufacturing methods
EXPERIENCE
Required:
Experience in an Engineering Management role leading a small team
Experience in development of a product with adherence to safety requirements
Experience with a project that involved firmware
Experience participating in requirements definition for new product
Experience transitioning a product with >1k/yr volume from development to manufacturing
Experience with all phases of product life-cycle from concept creation through field support
Experience with PLM and BOM documentation systems
BS in Engineering field
Preferred:
Coordinated motion control experience
Direct experience moving a product into production via contract manufacturer
Experience working with overseas suppliers
Experience working in an Agile (or similar) environment
Previous experience in a hands on Mechanical Engineering role
