Your role in helping us shape the future:
You will play a vital Quality leadership role as a member of the Quality Leadership team in the exciting future of inflight connectivity (IFC), inflight entertainment (IFE) and media streaming (IPTC) at Intelsat's Commercial Aviation (CA) division. You should have willingness to learn and build end to end system knowledge on various Intelsat's IFC/IFE products and services, including 3rd party technologies. You should have a burning desire to have a positive impact on the connected-passenger experience, and ultimately help bring to life the same mobile user experience available today - from the living room couch to the passenger seat in the very near future. We leverage cutting edge technology in client-app frameworks, big data analytics and modeling, optimization techniques and high availability services.
The successful Distinguished Engineer (DMTS), SW Quality Engineering will be obsessed with quality improvement. This role should be able to take a hands-on approach, and experienced and highly committed to creating and driving a high-level SW Quality strategy that delivers an outstanding airline and passenger experience. You will be the single point of contact focusing on various SW quality dashboards and metrics and driving quality improvements for internal and external teams; as well as a key member for compliance audits such as AS9100/9115/DO-178.

Can you drive these processes?

  • Use innovative methods to identify and solve the most complex problems and think beyond existing solutions.
  • Proactively collaborate with SW Development, HW Engineering, Accounts and Operations leaders to help identify opportunities and/or solve complex problems that impact the management and direction of Commercial Aviation.
  • Lead key cross-function technical project teams and initiatives leading to technical solutions that have meaningful impact on business results.
  • Provide technical guidance for negotiations with senior management, customers, regulators or vendors with a level of discretion to help influence decisions; negotiations will have an impact on the business.
  • Provide technical thought leadership and be responsible for the development and execution of the SW Quality Management Strategy for Commercial Aviation.
  • Have a good understanding of the aviation regulatory environment and be a key focal on compliance audits that includes AS9100/9115/DO-178.
  • Work across internal and external stakeholders that include SW dev ops, Account management, Product Management, and Technical Operations, Suppliers and Customers to understand product vision and requirements, and ensure the highest quality product delivery.


You should definitely have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • 15+ years of industry experience in Software Development/Test Life Cycle (SDLC/STLC), including at least 10+ years of hands-on SW Quality management experience
  • A Customer-centric mindset
  • Experience in consumer electronics, and/or telecom and/or aviation electronic products
  • Knowledge of SW QA concepts and methodology; Defining SW Quality OKRs


It would be nice if you had:

  • Experience working closely with development and business teams to communicate problem impacts and to understand business requirements
  • Experience in SAFe agile development methodologies with continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD)
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to track deployments across multiple technologies/airlines and to be able to synthesize the results.
  • Experience validating high-quality consumer facing applications on embedded communications platforms
  • Creativity and initiative to improve SW product quality and reliability
  • Comfort communicating cross-functionally and across management levels and customers in formal and informal settings
  • Six Sigma Certification a plus (Green Belt/Black Belt)
