Job Description
Engineer 2
An Engineer 2 is part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical, and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems, and solutions. These technology products and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business. The scope, responsibility and accountability is at the function level.
The Engineer 2 within Inventory Deployment and Planning is responsible for designing and developing highly available, robust, and scalable solutions for an events-based inventory planning platform. Maintaining inventory accuracy as we transact and replenish billions of dollars' worth of inventory is a key goal of the team which in turn increases the efficiency of other Nordstrom retail and e-commerce functions like planning, finance, store operations etc.
A day in the life...

  • Design and collaborate with local and partner teams
  • Implement efficient solutions that meet the business needs
  • Test all scenarios and conform to quality standards
  • Identify performance issues; apply knowledge of security coding practices and secure system fundamentals (e.g., cross-site scripting, security certificates)
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of information technology concepts issues, trends, and best practices as they relate to the discipline/practice
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of specific needs of a major line of business and the related set of applications, systems, or functions
  • Collaborate and work with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver solutions on time


You own this if you have...

  • 2+ years of professional experience in software development, experience on Java is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience of building solutions based on SOA and Event Driven Architecture
  • Experience in Java, Kubernetes
  • Experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka
  • Experiences with AWS or other cloud-based environments and tools (like Redis, DynamoDB, Aurora, RDS, S3)
  • Experiences with Database technologies and SQL optimization would be a plus
  • Experience with Inventory Management Systems, or Supply Chain Technologies is a plus
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in CS, Engineering or equivalent practical experience
