An Engineer 2 is part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems and solutions. These technology products and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business. The scope, responsibility and accountability is at the function level. 

The Store Commerce Checkout and Pay team is focused on building Point of Service suite of applications which enables Sales Associates to sell merchandise and services in brick and mortar stores leveraging ecommerce space and enterprise capabilities. It is a fast-paced environment as customers adopt new behaviors that requires quick-thinking, agility, flexibility in cross-team collaboration to deliver viable solutions for our customers in a short period of time. The space is complex with moving parts of modernizing services

We have a hybrid tech stack:

• Windows 2016 servers, Win 10 front end, back end services on .Net 4.0, MS-SQL server, VB6 scripts and UI,
• iOS Objective C
• ReactJS, Redux, Typescript
• Java apps 11 in docker containers on Kubernetes in AWS
• Build/Version/Package tools Gitlab/GitlabCI, Gradle

A day in the life… 

• Design application components related to POS and progressive web applications used within Store Commerce organization
• Collaborate with local and partner teams for various phases of software development life cycle.
• Implement solutions supported by various to conform to quality standards and engineering standards.
• Identify performance issues; apply knowledge of security coding practices and secure system fundamentals (e.g., cross-site scripting, security certificates)  
• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of information technology concepts issues, trends and best practices as they relate to the discipline/practice 
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge of specific needs of a major line of business and the related set of applications, systems or functions 
• Passion and drive to learn new technologies to keep up with changes
• DevOps engineer to support production systems with on call rotation.
• Participate in code reviews and mentor junior engineers.

You own this if you have… 

• 2+ years of professional experience software development and ability to design 
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS, Engineering or equivalent practical experience
