Job Description:
Develop Powertrain Oil systems and hydraulic components for transmissions and axle systems in Caterpillar product lines that meet complex requirements and low-cost producer (LCP) targets. Partner with suppliers to deliver production components and help the systems engineers integrate successfully into various applications. Directs and participates in the concept and design of complex hydraulic control projects for release to production in a manner to ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability.
Job Duties:
The Powertrain Oil system Engineer position develops, improves, and troubleshoots hydraulic control systems and hardware used in an array of transmission and axle systems. This generally includes the development of product requirements, analysis and simulation, electro-hydraulic component selection, system architecture, schematic, and layout development, and platform verification and validation. Some or all of these activities may be performed in partnership with a supplier including the manufacturing plan and process development.
You will develop solutions for complex technical engineering problems and may be accountable for the design or improvement of complex systems or processes. In addition to demonstrating technical expertise, a person in you may be called on to act as a team and/or project leader, but the major focus is on technical delivery. Must demonstrate the ability to develop and perform on a complex project or program. Direct work with other business units, suppliers, customers, and teams requires the incumbent to demonstrate skill in negotiation, building consensus, and achieving compromise. Impact of decisions made by You may be far-reaching, to include the project team or immediate workgroup, division, and/or business unit, suppliers, internal and external customers, and Caterpillar markets. Decisions may significantly impact warranty, patents, products or processes, technology, costs, sales, and customer perceptions.
The position responsibilities include a strong focus on quality through simulation, analysis, verification, and validation testing at the component level, subsystem, and system level. Advanced troubleshooting and analysis skills are needed to resolve complex development and field issues and to improve overall performance and cost. This individual is considered a deep technical expert in the system and component product area.
Major challenges facing incumbents are keeping up-to-date with technology and developing increased technical breadth and/or depth. Responsibilities of this position demand that the incumbent understand complex technical problems and demonstrate the ability to develop creative solutions. Technical leadership skills are essential. Though the focus of the job is a technical contribution, project management skills may be required.
Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • 6 years of experience with control valve and/or hydraulic system development.
  • Familiarity and experience with....
  • DATK, Dynasty and/or Simulink, Creo, TeamCenter, DFMEA
  • Familiarity and experience with CFD highly desired.
