This role has two core functions: Expert Storage Engineer and Storage Technical Advisor
Expert Storage Engineer:
The Expert Storage Engineer function ensures the stability, integrity, and efficient delivery of storage services - through the operation of SAN and NAS arrays, SAN switches, out-of-band managed storage arrays, as well as any array or appliance-based replication.
Storage Technical Advisor:
The Storage Technical Advisor function is customer-facing, aligned to strategic Ensono accounts. It provides focused attention to the administration of the customer's specific storage environment through expertise and understanding of the relationship between their applications, compute and network, and storage infrastructure. The storage TA participates with the account team and other platform technical advisors to deliver this service to the customer.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Expert Storage Engineer function:

  • Brings prior experience to organize and define work for complex or ambiguous situations
  • Provides consultation, training, knowledge sharing, and mentorship to associates
  • Function autonomously and balance priorities between scheduled and unscheduled effort to meet SLA/SLO/KPI targets
  • Creates solutions to Incidents and Problems to meet company's SLAs and client expectations
  • Supports release and life cycle process SAN fabric and storage array installs, upgrades, and decommissions
  • Provides thought leadership for overall SAN Fabric and Storage Array infrastructure support at the enterprise level
  • Contributes to operational readiness of platforms with dedicated/shared teams and consults on resource and skills required, process documentation creation, updates to guidelines, policies, change, and audit procedures
  • Participates in escalated troubleshooting efforts for storage issues and leads in major incidents, root cause analysis, and performance analysis and tuning
  • ITIL-compliant champion for incident, request, change, and problem management
  • Partner with monitoring team to develop new event and performance monitors/alerts and analysis as needed for new and/or existing systems
  • Participate in the modernization and automation of storage infrastructure and processes

Duties and Responsibilities of the Storage Technical Advisor function:

  • Understands the relationships between the clients applications and storage services used by the client, as well as other infrastructure areas such as compute/virtual and network.
  • The storage TA identifies potential challenges, operational risks, insights, and improvements, and makes recommendations improve the client storage infrastructure
  • Attends weekly meetings with client counterpart to provide updates on storage environment health and projects, participates in monthly/quarterly service review meetings with client as required to review client's future projects, sharing of best practices and innovating strategies to reduce client spend
  • Collaborates with client storage technology leads to drive tactical and strategic requirements of storage technology, prioritizes storage technology activities for Ensono teams, builds strong relationships to drive higher client satisfaction
  • Participates in problem management to proactively reviews open client problems and known errors to minimize the time spent firefighting and troubleshooting, supporting quicker resolution of incidents and events when they do arise
  • Assist and provide technical input to Ensono storage solution architect and others on the complex solution design, configuration, integration, and installation of new services for the client

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not have direct reports but may mentor less experienced associates in the role.
Qualifications:
Requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor degree; or 8 years and a Masters degree; or a PhD with 5 years experience; or equivalent work experience.
Platforms experience desired:
EMC, NetApp, IBM, Pure, Brocade, Cisco
