RedShelf was built to improve education. Working with the higher education community, we design products to make course materials more affordable, accessible and engaging for students everywhere. Our partnerships with leading academic publishers and institutions mean we get to make a direct impact on the education system through innovative technology.

What is the job?
As a Front-End Developer, you will be responsible for:

  • Participating in daily standups, project breakdown meetings, technical requirement gathering, and implementing solutions to progress our applications
  • Working closely with our Accessibility team and our UI/UX team to ensure that all of our students can intuitively use our eBooks, no matter their abilities or disabilities.
  • The delivery of features, bug fixes, or improvements from conception to release.
  • Working heavily in Ember.js, writing clean and maintainable UI code using JavaScript, SCSS, and HTML.
  • Writing thorough acceptance and unit tests for your code.

What are we looking for?
First and foremost, we are looking for someone who is passionate about development and making an impact in the higher education market. Candidates should have at least 3+ years of development experience with a focus in Front-End technology preferably with teams that have run Agile and/or Scrum methodology. Previous work with a Front-End JavaScript Framework (Ember, Angular, React, etc.) would be a requirement. We need someone who has worked closely on a team to build and maintain a large JavaScript application. And of course, we would love to have someone with experience in the education/publishing industry, but it’s not required.

Written and verbal communication skills will be essential to this position, specifically regarding effective communication with stakeholders, including senior leadership. You should be comfortable developing and leading projects and assignments independently with little to no direction. We are looking for an individual who is capable of balancing multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and showcasing the flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of a scrappy startup business.

What’s the tech stack?
Ideally, you should have experience with these technologies or some equivalent. However, we are willing to train the right candidate if you are passionate about the position and our goals.

  • JavaScript/Ember
  • Python/Django
  • Compass or SCSS
  • QUnit, PhantomJS,
