Job Summary

The User Interface Engineer is responsible for the creation of prototypes and production-ready user interface code in support of internal and consumer-facing desktop and mobile digital solutions.  They will apply knowledge of front-end technologies in support of business needs and objectives. They will partner closely with other front and back end developers, visual designers, experience designers and researcher designers to deliver useful and useable software solutions. Successful candidates must not only have strong front-end programming skills, but also know the fundamentals of page layout, user-centered design principles, information architecture, visual design principles, and user experience research to implement simple, intuitive, and visually stunning user interfaces.

The User Interface Engineer Associate Manager partners closely with team members and independently leads the creation of reusable design system components, prototypes and production-ready user interface code for moderate to complex level products.

They build a high performance culture by mentoring UI engineers, coaching and channeling team ideas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical
  • Enable the implementation of aesthetically pleasing designs through knowledge of front end code (including knowledge of graphic design principles, typography, iconography, web fonts and icon font tools).
  • Create production-ready HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code that is standards compliant and enhances usability/performance
  • Create re-useable code and templates in support of pattern libraries, style guides/brand standards, and prototypes
  • Create prototypes in support of various forms of user research studies (e.g. usability testing, eye-tracking, mock-up interviews, mobile testing)
  • Create iterative responsive prototypes in support of responsive delivery projects; Provide direction for proper levels of prototyping and production needs on projects
  • Establish and adhere to process and engagement models for interacting with delivery partners (technology and business teams) as well as Arity Experience Design team members
  • Research and share industry standards related to but not limited to: web-development, user-experience, design, awareness of new coding frameworks (e.g. jQuery, new responsive framework versions, angular.js, polymer.js).
  • Create standards for code quality, accessibility, and system performance
  • Guide delivery teams on UI code best practices
  • Create and oversee a governance model for code implementation Document design deliverables that can be shared and reused across software programs
  • Manage your work. Meet established project timelines and estimates; effectively communicate deviations, risks or issues that hinder progress
  • Mentor, coach and oversee direct reports; provide input to development plans and performance reviews
  • Possess the necessary technical and leadership skills to be able to share ideas and guide other front-end developers in managing projects.
  • Act as a lead for UI Engineers and lead efforts to deliver design solutions on complex projects
  • Give constructive feedback and ensure feedback is implemented

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Experience

  • Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science or related discipline
  • 5+ years of UI Development experience in delivering enterprise web-based solutions
