Department Overview
The Software Enterprise Deployment and Integration team is the team that delivers solutions to the public safety sector. We are committed to providing technology and tools which will allow customers to focus on their mission, and enable them to respond faster with smarter and safer decisions. We deploy and support products such as Computer Aided Dispatch, Records Management Systems, Jail Management Systems and Mobile Data Computing, among other offerings.
Job Description

This position is open to all remote candidates based in the US. 

Motorola Solutions is a world leader in the field of mission critical communications systems with an impressive heritage of technological innovations and a global base of installed systems. The Software & Services group builds on this to create leading end-to-end mission critical operations for Government & Public Safety Communications customers. This position with our local NYC team is focused on Next Generation 9-1-1 Solutions. Our VESTA® Router Service provides 9-1-1 Authorities the cornerstone to their NG9-1-1 transitions in a way that fits their resources, budgets and timelines. Our VESTA® Call Handling solutions connect citizens to the help they need when they need it. Our commitment to standards and our flexibility, transparency and geospatial routing infrastructure for regional or statewide deployments add up to a sound investment with new capabilities to safeguard citizens.

The Software & Service Implementation team comprises Project Management, System Engineering, Field Engineers and Operational Support personnel working together in a high performance culture, often with demanding cycle times and high customer expectations because we are working on mission critical communication systems.

This Integration Engineering Manager position will take responsibility for and oversee technical aspects of all assigned projects from award until system acceptance.

You will:

  • Represent Motorola Solutions Inc. as the technical expert liaison in all project and technical meetings with the customer during all design, test and implementation phases of the program.

  • Act as the overall technical lead in gathering and validating requirements for all assigned projects/products.

  • Lead technical requirements tracking through the use of RTVMs.

  • Manage the engineering team, assigning short and long-term goals for successful completion of the program plans.

  • Responsible for ensuring that all designs meet applicable industry standards, and are supportable throughout the program lifecycle. 

  • Foster an automation first engineering strategy.

  • Manage the creation of system-level specifications and designs.

  • Provide technical expertise for the resolution of complex problems. This could involve in depth analysis including the use of sophisticated analysis tools.

  • Solicit input from the Software Architects during the development of a system specification.

  • Participate in software architecture design reviews and test plan reviews to ensure compliance to specified requirements.

  • Regularly meet with customers and potential customers to discuss requirements.

  • Develop integration and test processes and policies.

  • Define, specify and/or recommend test tools and scripts necessary to accomplish integration and test activities. 

  • Provide Estimates of Effort for all integration engineering activities.

  • Ensure reviews and audits addressing quality aspects are conducted at various points in the testing cycle. 

  • Integral part of customer issue escalation process.

  • Establish documentation standards to be followed for documents and articles produced or edited by technical staff.

  • Prioritize all technical team tasks and projects and keep team members and supervisor apprised of status.

  • Ensures accuracy and completeness of technical documentation.


Success in this role is highly dependent on the ability to retain awareness and visibility of hundreds of Program related details, both Technical and Non-Technical, understanding dependencies and prioritizing engineering activities to best support implementation success. Some specific characteristics that are highly valuable in positioning this role for success include the following.

You have:

  • The ability to quickly gain a deep technical understanding of new topics/technologies.

  • The ability to quantify both technical and non-technical dependencies.

  • The ability to extract key low-level design elements and summarize them for a larger non-technical audience.

  • A moderate to in-depth understanding of Project Management fundamentals – especially scheduling.

  • A Solid awareness of Customer expectations and ability to effectively engage and lead customer focused meetings.

  • The ability to act as both Motorola Solutions’s technical representative toward the Customer and the Customer’s technical advocate toward Motorola Solutions's Product Organizations.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to model and advocate excellent communication across multiple disciplines, time zones, and organizations (internal & external).

Some travel (25 - 50%) may be required for all project phases, from design through final acceptance.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of Systems Engineering or Mission Critical Communications experience.

  • Experience directly working with end-user customers.

  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to present complex topics to nontechnical audiences.

  • Self motivated and able to maintain focus in a pressured environment.

  • Experience in Infrastructure Automation and DevOps workflow.

  • Experience in Public Safety communication systems.

  • Familiarity with Legacy and Next Generation 911 Call Handling systems a plus.

  • Private cloud and cloud infrastructure experience is preferred.

  • Bachelor's Degree (BSEE/BSCE/BSCS or MS) - highly preferred

  • Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customer


Basic Requirements

  • 8+ years of Systems Engineering leadership or Mission Critical Communications experience.

Vaccine Requirement
