As a Junior Full Stack Developer, you will join the Tech Team to build our custom integration and web application systems that drive our online education services. As you help improve our technology stack, you will be responsible for implementing new features and services on both the frontend and backend. We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in software development who can analyze complex issues involving data flowing through integrated systems. We pride ourselves in writing top notch quality code, and are looking for a teammate who does the same.
This position reports to the Engineering Manager. The preferred location is Chicago, IL where our headquarters are located, but remote candidates should still apply (strong preference for Central or Eastern Standard Time locations within the United States).
Responsibilities

• Develop new and maintain existing functionality in a Java-based integration system with a NoSQL database, leveraging REST Web Services, and Citrine batch jobs
• Develop new front-end features in React for our CourseBuilder software
• Write high-quality code and unit tests that meet the team's development standards
• Participate in technical design/architecture meetings, evaluate new frameworks and tools, and suggest innovative solutions to our complex problems
• Monitor interfaces to integrated systems ensuring that all systems are operating as designed
• Create and document application requirements by working together with functional team leaders
• Manage the software testing process, which includes devising test plans, creating test cases, establishing protocols and appropriate testing environments and coordinating actual software testing
• Be excited about working on all our technology challenges and open to learning and picking up the right skill to get the job done

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field
• 2+ years of software development experience
• Experience with languages such as Java, Javascript, SQL, and PHP
• Experience with technologies such as Spring, React, MongoDB, and AJAX
• Experience with Agile methodology preferred
• Excellent communication and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, on multiple projects
• Ability to understand, follow, and enforce proper design and coding standards
• Strong leadership and team work skills required.
• Ability to work with a diverse team in a fast-paced environment
