Flare Health is an investor-backed digital health startup in Chicago. We work with some of the most prestigious hospital systems in the country to connect patients needing specialized care to their expert physicians.

We are a small, mighty, profitable company founded by a software developer CEO and a physician. This is an opportunity to work with a founding team that values and understands product and will provide you with the right conditions to do your best work.

Moses has been writing code since he was nine, has a physics PhD from the University of Chicago, and got to pair program with Kent Beck after giving a talk on Mob Programming at XP Universe 2001. Sehjin is a fellowship-trained, double-board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon and otolaryngologist, who also studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and Parsons School of Design.

The interesting challenge we solve

Today’s referral process puts a great burden on patients, who are often already under extreme stress. Bureaucratic complexity is the last thing they need. The high-friction referral process also fails to connect physicians who need to collaborate on that patient's care, leaving them feeling frustrated and out of the loop.

Flare Health's solution connects the dots to help patients get the care they need quickly and to strengthen physicians’ professional networks, helping them work better with the specialist that is right for their patient.

We’re scaling up our team

Over the next twelve months, we are hiring six developers as part of an extraordinary effort to build out our product team.

Successful junior candidates will be the brightest in their peer group and able to show significant investment of time beyond academic training learning to code.

The unique opportunity

Here’s how we imagine your first year with us will go.

You’ll spend the first month getting up to speed on our platform by collaborating with the rest of the team: pair programming to commit a production feature in your first two weeks and participating in user research to understand physicians’ needs.

You will work full stack on both our Ember.js mobile app and Rails/Spring Boot backend services, iterating on new features until we demonstrate they have a meaningful impact on users.

You will work on a diverse array of projects across the stack, from major enhancements to our secure communication infrastructure, to creating a desktop version of our mobile application, to backend graph computation algorithms, to dev ops improvements to increase our use of automation and developer happiness.

You will also contribute significantly to company strategic discussions, sharing your insights to push us toward the light, not just through the product release cycle but across the board.

We’ll look back on our first year knowing we did brilliant work together. And three years from now you will know that you made healthcare more effective, better coordinated, and more human for patients, physicians, and healthcare organizations around the world.
