About the Job:RedShelf is looking for a Lead (Sr.) Full Stack Python Developer who is interested in growing into a management position. You would be working with a team of developers on our ebook platform handling book processing, API implementation, and performance optimization. A typical day would involve planning features, writing code, reviewing your teams code, advising other members of your team, and eventually managing a team of 4-5 developers.

Developers on our e-reader team work hard to deliver an excellent product used by 100’s of thousands of students each year. We need developers who care about creating a great experience for people using our platform.

What are We Looking For?First and foremost, we are looking for someone who is passionate about development and making an impact in the higher education market. Ideal candidates should a bachelor’s degree in computing, math, engineering, or another related field plus at least 7+ years of development experience with a focus in technology preferably with teams that have run Agile and/or Scrum methodology. Previous work with Python and Django would be a requirement. Experience with Javascript and front-end frameworks such as Ember are a plus. We need someone who has worked closely on a team to building robust APIs which are optimized for performance. And of course, we would love to have someone with experience in the education/publishing industry, but it’s not required. 

Written and verbal communication skills will be essential to this position, specifically regarding effective communication with stakeholders, including senior leadership. You should be comfortable leading a team to on the development of projects and assignments . We are looking for an individual who is capable of balancing multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and showcasing the flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of a scrappy startup business. 

What’s the Tech Stack?RedShelf is based largely on open source software and tools. If you have experience with any of the following it would be great but we are willing to train someone with the right passion and personality.

  • Python, Django, Django Rest Framework
  • Celery, RabbitMQ, Elasticsearch
  • AWS, Docker, Salt
  • Javascript, Ember, SASS
  • Git, PyCharm
