Job Description
The Customer Engagement value stream at Discover is looking for an experienced Lead Software Engineer - API. We are modernizing our Marketing Technology require technical development and leadership across our technology implementations to transforming our customer facing systems and marketing. The transformation will enable real-time data which provides Discover the capability to have relevant, timely, and personalized conversations with our customers.
Develops and maintains full stack solutions to fit business needs. Full stack solutions require one or more of the following: front-end (user interfaces), back-end (APIs), database and DevOps development. This position focuses primarily on back-end API development for connecting customer systems with Marketing Technology systems.
Job Summary
Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains solutions to fit business needs in the area of customer communication systems
- Develops back-end (APIs) database and DevOps development
- Works directly with business partners to understand business requirements. Independently innovates on and advocates for best practices within the team, and collaborates on them across the enterprise.
- Carries a holistic view of all products and their interactions to design complex solutions and plan for how new projects will fit into the larger ecosystem.
- Guides team implementation of solutions from inception to production.
- Lead design and development of customer impacting initiatives
- Develop and improves backend systems that serve customers
- Ability to quickly identify an opportunity and recommend possible technical solutions.
- Strong desire and capability to automate
- Innovates on and advocates for best practices and improved processes within the team and with internal partners; stays up to date with technology trends and innovations; mentors team members
- Creates and maintains DevOps processes, application infrastructure, and utilizes cloud services
- Supports live systems to ensure business continuity
- Works with key stakeholders to design complex solutions and lead from inception to production
- Creates and maintains DevOps processes, application infrastructure, and utilizes cloud services
- Innovates on and advocates for best practices and improved team processes; mentors junior team members
At a minimum, here's what we need from you:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology
- 6 years in Computer Science, Information Technology or Equivalent Experience
- In lieu of degree, 8+ years in Computer Science, Information Technology or Equivalent Experience
Technical experience/skills that will make you successful:
- Expertise on current digital marketing strategies such as personalization, cross channel marketing, data driven optimization of experiences
- Experience with event driven architecture (e.g. Kafka)
- Experience working with commercial products such as Customer Data Platforms (CDP)
- Experience in cloud hosting environments including Amazon Web Services
- Database technologies including Snowflake, Oracle, MariaDB, PostgresSQL
- Modern web-development frameworks (Angular, React, Foundation, Bootstrap)
- HTML, CSS, DOM, XML, JavaScript, AJAX, JSON
- Web browser & Cross device compatibility design
- Java, Spring Framework, J2EE, APIs, Microservice architecture
- CI/CD with Jenkins or similar, Chef, Git/GitHub, Gradle, Nexus, SonarQube
- Cloud/PaaS Architectures: Cloud Foundry(PCF), AWS
- Container solutions: Docker, Kubernetes or Openshift
- Strong team player with willingness to collaborate and lead in Agile development
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong capability to execute tasks with quality
- Strong communication and decision-making skills
