Job Description:
The Lead Software Engineer contributes to design, development and deployment of Dealer Digital Integration solutions. This position will provide application and technical leadership in the development of detailed Integration specifications for major business/infrastructure and/or development, integration and implementation projects. Applies integration solutions to business/technical problems through customer interactions, debugging, testing, and integration/implementation of complex, medium to large-sized automated information technology Dealer systems.
JOB DUTIES: This position reports to a Dealer Digital Integration Services Manager, working in Dealer Interface Center of Excellence (DICE) team as do other staff jobs in Dealer Digital Integration Services Section supporting Dealer integration initiatives. As a member of the Dealer Interface Center of Excellence (DICE) team within Cat Digital, a qualified candidate will work with dealers and Cat business partners to ensure all Parts related Caterpillar applications and their technical connectivity are maintained between Caterpillar and our dealers as they migrate from a legacy Dealer Management System (DMS), for instance DBS, to a modern dealer management systems, or perform upgrades of existing systems, or make changes within their systems environment. This position will offer a qualified candidate the unique opportunity to work directly with Caterpillar dealers and learn the inner workings of the business processes and B2B integration between Caterpillar and our dealer network.
Responsibilities of the incumbents are across functional lines with individuals assigned in new program development and/or maintenance of existing Dealer Integrations.
Competent to perform all integration, project management, and development assignments without close supervision; normally assigned the more complex aspects of systems work. Works directly on complex application/technical problem identification and resolution. Drives dealer integration of cat interfaces focused around delivering business valuable features Maintains high standards of integration quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits. Identifies and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the team. Communicate with end users and internal customers to help direct development, debugging, and testing of integration for accuracy, integrity, interoperability, and completeness. Performs integrated testing and customer acceptance testing of components that requires careful planning and execution to ensure timely, quality results. Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.
The position manages the completion of its own work assignments and coordinates work with others. Based on past experiences and knowledge, the incumbent normally works independently with minimal management input and review of end results.
Typical customers include Caterpillar customers, dealers, other external companies who purchase services offered by Caterpillar as well as internal business unit and/or service center groups. The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify problems that may not be obvious. The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action, within departmental guidelines, from many existing solutions. The incumbent sets priorities and establishes a work plan in order to complete broadly defined assignments and achieve desired results. The position participates in brainstorming sessions focused on developing new approaches to meeting quality goals in the measure(s) stated.
Basic qualifications:
Requires a relevant degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience. The incumbent should be knowledgeable of cat applications and dealer processes working with or alongside deploying or developing solutions to dealers. In addition, the incumbent should have a good knowledge of Caterpillar policies and procedures, and a general understanding of Caterpillar's organization.

  • Position requires a four-year degree from an accredited college or university in Computer science or Electrical engineering or related field is required
  • Five years or more of software development experience or at least three years of experience with master's degree in computer science or related field.
  • 5 plus years parts or ecommerce experience
  • 3 plus years deploying/developing dealer facing applications

  • Sound technical skills with aptitude to automate repeatable elements.
  • Strong focus in project management abilities.
  • Service provider consultant mindset.
  • Mainframe background and knowledge is critical for success in this role.
  • Extensive familiarity and understanding of API calls with ability to format and read data.
  • General understanding of dealer ecommerce business processes and deep understanding of the role IT / Digital plays in supporting growth and business development.
  • General understanding of dealer Parts operations and a deep understanding of how Caterpillar applications (Parts Pricing / ANTARES / SPM / Facility Logistics / Hose Information Systems / CMIS 2 / RAM / etc.) interface with dealers in support of those operations within their selected Dealer Management System.
  • Proven ability to build trust through effective team relationships
  • Must have a strong customer focus, possess dealer and customer experience, knowledge of company products, product applications, and customer workflows.
  • Effective troubleshooting skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in leading and facilitating meetings is highly desired
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills highly desired
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or influence others inside and outside the department to take specific actions.
  • Strong communication skills capable of communicating with senior management, senior dealer personnel, and technical experts
  • Ability to work under pressure and within time constraints
  • Passion for technology and an eagerness to contribute to a team-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated leadership on small to medium-scale projects impacting strategic priorities
  • Self-starter, independent worker
