ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Lead Site Reliability Engineer at ShopRunner, you’ll be responsible for enabling the smooth transition of software from our product development teams to our cloud-based operating infrastructure residing in AWS, Azure and GCP. You will also be enabling teams to complete the feedback loop by observing and effectively reacting to how their services are operating. You will be collaborating across the development, operations, and product organization to deliver platforms and services that help drive business value to the entire organization. As a Site Reliability Engineer at ShopRunner, writing code, implementing configuration, automation tools, deploying scalable platforms and services, and maintaining a 24x7 eCommerce site will be part of your daily responsibilities.

As a team Lead, you will guide the technical aspects of our Site Reliability team. You will lead, in conjunction with our Senior SRE and Principal Engineers, architecting our SRE processes and tools. You will mentor our other SRE engineers and engineers from other teams in our DevOps methodologies. You’ll also help with our project management processes, such as leading retrospectives, helping lead sprint planning and influencing our product roadmap.

This role is US based only but we are open to any of our US offices in Chicago, IL, Conshohocken, PA (Philly), and New York City or fully remote in any of these states: CA, DE, IL, IN, FLA, MA, NY, NJ, NC, SC, PA, TX, UT, VA, WA, CT, MD, MI. From time to time, there will be limited travel to our offices as the need arises.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Help teams eliminate toil and allow those teams to focus on generating value for the company
  • Build strong relationships with business and engineering peers
  • Lead the process of architecting our SRE tools & processes
  • Help lead retrospectives, sprint planning and backlog pruning
  • Mentor SRE team members and engineers from across the organization
  • Write code that helps developers generate value using Terraform Modules, GitHub Actions, ChatOps, Spinnaker, CLI tools, etc.
  • Work with teams to set SLOs and help them implement monitoring & observability to meet these SLOs
  • Automate operations such as helping developers improve PR process, CI/CD and other operational tasks
  • Solving issues that cut across the entire organization
  • Write, update, and encourage the use of documentation
  • Be available to answer questions and use this to find ways to improve our work
  • Occasional emergency on-call support during non-working hours


WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required:

  • Bachelors degree
  • Developer-first mindset, we are building software not administering systems
  • Experience leading a team of engineers
  • Engineer that has ample experience developing software
  • Enjoys helping people and answering questions
  • Experience managing or leading multi-team (cross organizational) projects 
  • Strong experience with Azure, AWS and/or GCP
  • Experience with Linux systems especially in the context of containerization (i.e. Docker)
  • Strong background with programming languages like Python, JavaScript, Go, or Ruby
  • Logging, Monitors, Metrics & Tracing (monitoring & observability)
  • Strong background with Terraform and/or other IaC tools
  • Experience setting up and managing CI/CD processes
  • Read the Google SRE books and wants to implement them

Preferred:

  • Experience with managing and running production workloads on Kubernetes
  • Experience with enforcing security & engineering standards (i.e. Policy enforcement)
  • Experience using and writing GitHub Actions
  • OSS contributions
