Job Description

The Network Tools Engineer is a senior position with the team and will lead projects to deliver Dashboards, Tools Automation and Analysis capability to internal customers at all levels across Motorola. Preference to have expertise in network management tools and be able to apply that experience in leading/owning network tools such as SevOne, NetBrain and NetScout products among others, to ensure Motorola gets the full value from its investments.

Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations:

  • Build, integrate and maintain a scalable and cost effective network infrastructure management solution that can deliver early detection of issues as well as provide customers visibility to the state of network services.

  • Partner with the front office, back office, and devops teams, end users, and business partners to solve complex challenges with innovative ways to connect.

  • Utilize network tools that monitor utilization, predict capacity requirements, and manage inventory and configuration.

  • Integrate tool suite with Service Now

  • Demonstrate a high level of creativity and expertise to develop simple, high impact solutions to improve our communications systems.

  • Identify innovative opportunities and drive from idea to business case development.

  • Provide technical direction and oversight to network support teams.

  • Find and create new methods to increase performance, automation, and scalability.

  • Participate on Service Restoration Teams when critical problems arise - 24x7x365.

  • Regional travel may be required; percentage will vary based on project needs.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years applicable Network experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to articulate project level presentations to business sponsors.

  • Strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills to resolve complex problems.

  • Ability to draft and document designs and standards.

  • Project experience implementing network infrastructure, network management tools, reporting tools, and/or data analysis tools with a focus on network data.

  • Operational excellence with knowledge of ITIL practices

Required Skills and Experience 

  • 3+ years experience planning, designing, installing, configuring ,and administering network management tools.

  • Working knowledge of network topologies, methodologies and protocols

  • Knowledge and experience of producing Network Dashboards from multiple tools for various audiences, such as Leadership, Management and Operations

  • System integration, network scripting or automation experience

  • Experience in scripting languages such as Python, PERL, BASH, or similar

  • Intermediate knowledge of network systems design principles and standards

  • Intermediate knowledge of packet capture and analysis

  • Experience with linux based operating systems

  • Experience with reporting tools such as Tableau or similar

  • Ability to provide clear and concise reporting to multiple levels of management while also being able to dig into details of specific line items in those reports

Experience Desired:

  • Understanding of SDN/SD-WAN networks.

  • Security products/practices – ACLs, Firewalls, VPN, etc.

  • ITIL and Enterprise Change Management

  • Technical project management background

  • Experience working in a large enterprise environment (1000+ devices)

  • Service Now
