What You'll Do

As an Engineering Manager within the Thermal team you will be leading an engineering team to provide subject matter expertise and solutions to help Uptake achieve its business objectives to internal and external customers . You will directly manage a technical team to design, develop, test and deploy digital products and solutions that are consistent with Uptake’s product strategies, particularly as it pertains to Reliability, Data and Performance. You would execute with an emphasis on delivery of scope in a timely and cost effective manner. You’d be accountable for setting team performance metrics and responsible for monitoring them and making needed operating adjustments with a goal towards improvement, on time delivery and quality. You will also act as the team’s technical product owner. A customer / product first mindset is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a development team: perform HR-related, performance management and interpersonal communication duties as well as ensuring that the team works on and delivers on its commitments in a timely and cost effective manner
  • Lead team on delivering solutions/products focused on Reliability, Performance and Data… models, outcomes, data needs, guarantees, and risks
  • Collaborate with product management team and senior technical staff to meet deliverables in a timely manner
  • Coordinate development projects with other teams and managers including sales, commercial, finance, and data science teams
  • Know and apply advanced concepts and practices while solving problems
  • Provide regular progress, roadblock and opportunity reports to senior management
  • Effectively communicate inter team dependencies
  • Collaborate with other teams to eliminate progress blockers
  • Own and be responsible for the product and/or solution quality and timely delivery
  • Help technical and product teams to see the end-to-end picture of new solutions

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Material Science
  • Good knowledge of Reliability, Performance and data tools, processes and methodologies
  • A solid history of managing teams to deliver projects with the expected capability, quality and timing
  • A strong track record of project delivery for projects that involve multiple teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
  • A track record of communicating well with executives and non-technical leaders

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS, Ph.D. in in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Material Science
  • Subject matter expert in Thermal hardware and operability.
  • Understand the products and services side of thermal power plants
  • Deep understanding of design, outage, repair, reliability, performance, productivity, and/or data needs for Power Plants

Location

We are located in River North just right off the Chicago Brown Line stop. We also provide you with a free shuttle service to/from Ogilvie and Union.
