Requirements

Job Description

divvyDOSE is seeking an individual who is passionate about applying an engineering mindset to develop automated solutions for managing platform infrastructure. In this role, you will plan and implement tools and practices that evolve our platform. You will also be responsible for guiding other engineering teams so that they are empowered to own their infrastructure. Our engineering teams make heavy use of managed, serverless technologies, largely on AWS, and you should be comfortable doing the same. In addition to these hands-on responsibilities, we are looking for an individual who is interested in seeding and growing a DevOps / SRE competency within the organization; being able to identify gaps in existing talent pools and recommend new growth opportunities, as well as being a thought leader in this space, are just as important as your ability to contribute code directly.

We realize that the “DevOps / SRE” competency is vast and we don’t expect you to be an expert in everything. Instead, you should be enthusiastic about learning when confronted with unknowns and an advocate for scalable practices that avoid relying on “heroics” as a long-term solution for any problem. You should prefer documentation and automation to DIY problem-solving, and be adept at sharing knowledge with others.

Responsibilities

  • Be the principal SRE advocate at divvyDOSE.
  • Partner with engineering teams to establish and meet goals related to availability, reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Grow DevOps and SRE competencies within the platform engineering group.
  • Ensure sufficient logging, monitoring, alerting and other areas of observability for infrastructure with high-availability requirements.
  • Design and implement automated failover strategies for multi-region platform infrastructure.
  • Write code that automates repetitive engineering tasks.
  • Participate in and plan requirements for humane on-call rotations.
  • Be a servant leader: you will be empowered to define standard practices and your stakeholders will be the engineering teams who use them.

Required Skills

  • At least 7 years prior experience in software engineering with a deep understanding of SDLC and agile practices
  • At least 5 years prior experience in a DevOps / SRE role
  • Experience planning and leading team-based initiatives
  • Proficient in one or more of the following: Python, Golang, Ruby, Java
  • Experience using orchestration and infrastructure-as-code tools such as: Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, Chef
  • Experience working with managed services in AWS
  • Experience with Linux
  • Familiarity with serverless architecture

Desired experience in one or more of the following areas

  • AWS networking
  • Containerized services
  • Maintaining Linux environments, including applying software patches
  • Monitoring, logging, and alerting with tools like: CloudWatch, Datadog, NewRelic, ELK stack, Grafana
  • Experience defining and tracking SLOs and error budgets
  • Experience with serverless / function-as-a-service development

Technologies we use

  • Python and JavaScript
  • AWS Lambda (Serverless framework)
  • Docker
  • Amazon EC2 and ECS
  • Terraform
  • Datadog
  • RDS (PostgreSQL), DynamoDB, and ElasticSearch
  • Sentry
  • AWS X-Ray
  • CircleCI and Jenkins
