So, what’s the role?

As a QA Manager, you will be central to our QA team, primarily responsible for leading test strategy efforts, managing QA engineers and SDET’s, and guiding them in their career paths as well as daily work. You will collaborate closely with our engineering, qa, product, UX, insurance, and accounting teams.

A day in the life could include:

  • Driving test strategies and educating others on QA best practices
  • Working closely with product and technical managers on process improvements 
  • Identifying opportunities for test automation or new tools that will make the QA process more efficient
  • Developing quality metrics and continually reviewing trends to identify areas of improvement
  • Creating QA documentation and training materials for various audiences 
  • Conducting weekly 1/1's with direct reports
  • Conducting performance and compensation reviews 
  • Interviewing and hiring contractors, vendors, and direct reports
  • Creating roadmap and milestones to support the department and company vision
  • Providing input into long term planning, the QA vision, and other initiatives across the tech organization

I’ve got the skills… but do I have the necessary ones?

  • 5+ years of quality assurance or quality engineering management experience
  • Strong mentorship and leadership skills, able to mentor qa engineers at various stages of their career
  • Experience creating and evaluating goals for direct reports, comfortable providing actionable feedback to team members
  • A track record of meeting technical business goals
  • Comfortable in a startup environment or working with ambiguity
  • Data oriented - using data and metrics to inform decisions and drive growth
  • Able to work across teams to tackle complex issues
  • Experience using Git or other source code management tools
  • Experience with cloud applications such as AWS

  • Experience within the P&C Insurance industry a plus

Location

Located in the historic Merchandise Mart Plaza, Kin's office is located directly off the Brown and Purple line stops, overlooking the Chicago River.
