Ruby Developer
Crafty’s mission is to help companies craft better workplaces. We work with offices to elevate happiness by providing snacks, beverages, alcohol, and cool happy hour events!
When we first launched on December 1, 2015, our business was a craft beer marketplace that delivered delicious, small-batch local craft beers to offices throughout the city. We have since evolved into a food, beverage, and events management platform for offices in Chicago. Some of our biggest name customers are Google, Uber, Yelp, Salesforce, Trunk Club, WeWork, and Coyote Logistics!
From hot coffee to cold brew coffee, from kegs of craft beer to bottles of Bud Light, from LaCroix to Coke Zero, from coffee cups to plastic silverware, and from fully stocked office kitchens to poppin’ events and tastings, we offer a truly comprehensive product portfolio.
Position overview:
Crafty is seeking a developer with experience in Ruby on Rails to join our rapidly growing team! We are looking to add to our group of close-knit developers and product designers who work to automate and streamline the day to day needs of both our internal processes and clients needs. We’re building out internal API’s, internal tools, client facing dashboards, purchasing/recommendation algorithms, reporting capabilities...you name it, we’re finding a way to build it. Our team is small but mighty, so you can expect to be involved in all facets of technological problems.
We believe that code should be deployed as soon as it’s tested, so you can look to have an impact immediately. Unit testing is very important to us because it allows us to catch errors early through continuous integration. Our development team works closely with our product team to assure that new stories are properly vetted before stories are passed into the development cycle. Because of the rapidly growing nature of our business, we are an agile workshop that views prioritization as the key to our success. Stories are vetted through our prioritization and design process so that by the time a ticket falls on your shoulders, you can expect proper definitions to be in place.
We take individual and team growth very seriously here, as our team is highly collaborative, supportive, and constantly learning about the latest technologies.
Your experience:
+ Minimum 1 year experience developing in Ruby on Rails outside of bootcamps or coding academies
+ Have worked on codebases using Git (or other similar version control systems)
+ Full Stack Web Development experience
Your proficiencies:
+ CSS, HTML, and Javascript web practices
+ Writing meaningful unit tests
+ Understanding of object-oriented design, client-server architecture, and relational database design (PostgreSQL, MySQL)
+ Prior work with API’s and markup languages (XML, JSON, etc…)
+ An eye for great UX and an ability to deconstruct how product and engineering decisions affect broader business goals
You are:
+ Extremely hard working. We are a startup with the mentality that no job is too big or too small for us. You hustle because that’s just how you work.
+ Extraordinarily organized. Detail-orientation is an absolute must. You have tried-and-true methods in your arsenal for staying organized and on top of it all.
+ Of high integrity and sound judgment.
+ A strategic thinker. You are constantly preparing for and thinking about the future and the project at scale.
+ Calm and collected in the line of fire. On a day where everything that could go wrong has gone wrong, you find a way to stay positive and promote that attitude within your team members.
+ Passionate about growth. We have a bright future ahead – which depends on our team’s spirit, morale, and work ethic.
