We’re hiring for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) who will operate primarily within our custom Salesforce instance. They will be supporting our Sales Conversion Pod through manual and automated testing within a Salesforce environment. The company has prioritized significant improvements to the CRM, analysis tools, and user workflows; as a result, this SDET role includes the opportunity to work in both legacy and greenfield code bases. 

The SDET will work closely with the Sales Conversion Engineering Manager to implement testing in an agile development environment. They will also work alongside our Sales Conversion Technical Product Manager, Sales/Marketing/Customer Service stakeholders, and other SDEs to understand and verify requirements. They must be a thorough and proactive communicator, as they will be responsible for ensuring that all Salesforce changes shipped are of high quality and enable the company’s revenue-driving processes. 

SDET is a new role at Neighborhoods.com, and will be expected to collaborate with our existing small-but-mighty team of QA Analysts who support Lead Generation. 


What you’ll be doing as our SDET:

  • Understanding requirements of features that are being built
  • Designing and implementing automated end-to-end feature tests
  • In limited cases when automated tests are not possible, designing and implementing manual tests
  • Ensuring all automated tests run in our CI environment and investigating any feature regressions
  • Providing feature signoff before stakeholder acceptance

Basic requirements to do the job:

  • 3+ years of experience as a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)
  • Good interpersonal skills, and the ability to speak/write and communicate effectively.
  • Extensive experience in automated and manual verification of:
    • Salesforce workflows, triggers, and process builders, SOQL for CRUD operations
    • Web services (Service Oriented Architecture)
    • Single Page Applications (SPAs)
    • REST/SOAP APIs
  • Object Oriented programming experience
  • Proven ability in designing and writing automated tests using most of the following:
    • Javascript, Java, PHP or other object oriented language
    • Selenium or other web application testing framework
    • Jest, TestNG, PHPUnit, or other testing framework
    • Appium or other mobile testing framework
    • Jenkins or other automation server
  • Understanding of the testing pyramid and when each type of test should be used
  • Experience in understanding Business Requirement Specifications, Functional Specifications and Design Documents and converting them into Test Scenarios
  • Experience working closely with Product Owners to ensure features are delivered to meet business and quality requirements and defects are appropriately escalated for resolution

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Understanding of test health metrics (code coverage, flakiness, etc)
  • Understanding of basic DevOps concerns, such as integrating automation in continuous integration tools (CI/CD) and nightly test suite execution
  • Basic experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Basic experience operating in a Service Oriented Architecture
  • Basic experience with agile development methodology
  • Basic understanding of common AWS products (S3, SQS, SNS).
  • Experience with industries such as e-commerce, real estate, banking, or lead generation

Our headquarters is located in Chicago and our team is currently working remotely. Our company intends to return to in-person office work when it is safe to do so, and employees feel comfortable going in. This role can be performed fully remotely.
