Security Engineer
Job Description Summary
The Security Engineer is responsible for security compliance and analysis across multiple systems and hardware platforms.
Job Duties
- Designs, builds, tests, and maintain network, system and cloud computing security platforms including, but not limited to, intrusion detection systems (IDS), firewalls and AWS security groups for VPCs
- Ensures that all infrastructure systems are designed, implemented, and supported to meet security policies and standards
- Ensures that products meet security standards and requirements expected by customers and the commercial marketplace
- Assess risk and recommend mitigating controls for project implementations, designs, etc.
- Monitor networks and systems for security breaches, through the use of software that detects intrusions and anomalous system behavior
- Investigate security breaches
- Lead incident response when required, including steps to minimize the impact and then conducting a technical and forensic investigation into how the breach happened and the extent of the damage
- Implement protections
- Conduct periodic network scans to find any vulnerability
- Conduct penetration testing, simulating an attack on the system to find exploitable weaknesses
- Support all company directed initiatives and projects related to the Security Monitoring areas to include all compliance issues
- Document current security policies and procedures and make recommendations to management for changes where appropriate
- Ensure policies are effectively communicated to the business
- Work with many disciplines within the business regarding policy – technical, physical, professional, etc.
- Work with all disciplines ensuring security compliance
- Respond to all audit and compliance requests both internal and external when required.
- Become an advocate for security
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related work experience
- ITIL experience or certification is a plus
- CISSP, CEH or equivalent certification is a plus
- Java, Python or Powershell experience is a plus; but not necessary
- Experience in SOC1/SOC2, Sarbanes Oxley, or related auditing requirements
- Demonstrated technical familiarity with the following:
- Fundamentals of TCP/IP and Networking (Routing, DNS, DHCP)
- Microsoft operating systems
- Unix (Linux and Solaris)
- Firewall administration
- Encryption technologies (SSH, TLS, SSL, IPSec)
- Intrusion detection technologies
- Anti-malware technologies
- Security information event management (SIEM)
- Vulnerability management software/ penetration testing software
- Demonstrate knowledge of Amazon cloud computing platform
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Excellent troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work and communicate with coworkers and users under pressure
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to communicate with all levels of management
- Strong customer-service orientation
- Evening and weekend work may be required
