Caterpillar's Earthmoving Division is currently seeking an Automation Systems Engineer at its Peoria Proving Ground in Peoria, IL. In this role you will work on the exciting and technically challenging Automation Systems Development team with focus on medium track-type tractor application. This team is responsible for developing and demonstrating automation technologies, which are often used in conjunction with information systems, safety systems, remote control, semi-autonomous, and fully autonomous machine control systems.

In this role, you can expect to:
- Research and develop new technology aligned with customer needs for safety, remote control, and autonomy
- Create and manage detailed design requirements (system architecture, hardware, software), FMEAs, and validation plans
- Solve analytical problems and debug systems that include hardware and software components, including on-machine testing at proving ground
- Interface with project leads, hardware engineers, and software engineers to develop systems and ensure customer requirements are met
- Participate in R&D programs through entire lifecycle, from launch to production
- Stay up to date with technology, develop increased technical breadth and/or depth of one's own specialty - be innovative yet able to convert concepts to reality
- Collaborate with a distributed, multidisciplinary team - effectively communicate ideas and developmental results
To be successful in this Role, you must bring ( Basic Qualifications ):
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in accredited engineering or computer science curriculum
- Bachelor's degree with 5 years or Master's degree with 3 years of experience in systems engineering development (system architecture, design, and integration) on earthmoving equipment
- 3 years of experience with perception technology (Ethernet/LVDS cameras, Radar, and/or Lidar) development and/or testing on earthmoving equipment
- Experience with datalink protocols (CAN, J1939, ethernet) as applied to earthmoving equipment
- Understanding of ISO regulations and tests for camera and detection systems on earthmoving equipment
- Experience with functional safety standards and system requirements (hardware and software)
- Experience with Linux operating system
- Excellent analytical skills and extensive understanding of complex engineering concepts and applications
Top Candidates will also have (Desired Qualifications)
- Master's Degree in accredited engineering, computer science or robotics curriculum
- Experience developing and testing systems on track-type tractor machines
- Knowledge and/or experience with software design, kinematic design, control/robotics logic, electrical, electronics, hydraulic, software coding, embedded computer system, control theory and data communication
- Experience with Python, Matlab/Simulink, Docker and/or ROS
- Excellent technical and problem-solving skills, with strong mechanical and hydraulics aptitude
- Familiar with Autosar, GIT and IVY
- Experience with CANape
