About the Role

NextME is seeking an experienced and self-motivated Backend Engineer to develop the foundations of our web application and provide sound technical leadership as our company grows.

You must be excited to work with a small dedicated team with no ego and a mutual love of building great products. You must carry leadership experience and provide technical direction to attain the company’s strategic goals established in the company’s roadmap.

MUST BE LOCATED IN THE U.S. (NO OFFSHORE TEAMS OR AGENCIES)

Responsibilities 

• Develop a deep understanding of NextME’s technology and the microservices that power it
• Own the backend architecture and advocate for specific technical approaches that make the product scalable and maintainable
• Work closely with frontend engineers to build a simple, efficient and predictable API that they can tap into
• Propose strategies to take existing code built in older paradigms and reimplement them using current best practices
• Contribute to the company’s strategic direction, development and future growth
• Communicate effectively with the executive team internally, as well as apply a consultative approach externally with clients and/or strategic partners
• Leverage data to inform decisions and define metrics to measure the success of new features
• Provide leadership in a fashion that supports the company’s culture, mission and value
• Have a passion for coding and getting your hands dirty
• Help actively recruit and manage the best talent to scale the engineering team

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of backend development experience in PHP and a sound knowledge of Laravel.
• Experience with version control, task runners, and dependencies tools like gulp, node, composer, and git
• Solid Understanding of MySQL databases
• Experience in programming and interacting with APIs
• Solid background in utilizing 3rd party integrations and application libraries with strict security requirements
• Excellent knowledge of Web Standards and RESTful APIs
• Effective writing, communication and presentation skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Flexibility with changing scopes and priorities, we believe in iteration and work in a fast paced environment

Bonus skills & attributes 

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related area
• General experience with DevOps
• Knowledge of common design patterns and an attention to detail
