The Senior Systems Engineer at Relativity will be responsible for engineering large distributed enterprise solutions. They will work with other engineers and business stakeholders to support the demands of the department and meet the objectives of the product development process.

This role will join our RelativityOne Operations team to work on increasing the scalability of our software to handle terabytes and petabytes of data in the cloud.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing strategies to improve and automate our environment provisioning, setup and testing processes for both on premise and cloud-based infrastructure
  • Designing and maintaining highly distributed systems in a public cloud
  • Researching cloud native storage and automation technologies
  • Contributing to an Agile (Scrum), or Lean (Kanban), or hybrid team to solve the engineering challenges
  • Producing automation scripts, chef code, and inventory scripts
  • Being a dependable and highly skilled development resource for peers
  • Having a broad awareness of related projects
  • Advocate and model coding and collaboration best practices, review team code, and provide team members with feedback and suggestions for process improvement
  • Collaborate with other dev teams regularly to establish an outbound and inbound pipeline of new (to Relativity) best practices
  • Documents and demonstrates solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code
  • Oversees the application environment to effectively run and maintain the technology and recommend any potential technology or process improvements with an emphasis on cloud computing and configuration management platforms
  • Provides development expertise to team members through education and review
  • Always open to new ideas and encourages innovative practices among peers
  • Works collaboratively with QA professionals to encourage defect prevention over detection

Additional Responsibilities

  • Use REST API’s from a Ruby client to interact with commercial software
  • Write health monitoring scripts in PowerShell, C#, Ruby
  • Interact with Azure using REST API, PowerShell, and GO interfaces
  • Setting up and configuring SAMBA Servers
  • Maintain Packer process to generate Azure Samba Servers
  • Write Jenkins DSL to maintain azure Linux files servers
  • Writing Chef scripts and maintaining chef managed servers

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related disciplines
  • 7+ years supporting and maintaining environments that host commercial-grade systems and applications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, and strong teamwork skills for cross-group collaboration
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills
  • Ability to perform under pressure and deliver technical solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of Agile software development methodologies (SCRUM)

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with public cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
  • Experience setting up and configuring SAMBA Servers and working with SAMBA
  • Experience with cloud storage technologies like Azure Blob, Data Lake, Table Storage, DocumentDB, AFS, or Redis
  • Jenkins experience; 2+ years experience preferred
  • Configuration Management experience with one or more tools (Chef, Puppet, Ansible, SaltStack)
  • Experience with Terraform is a bonus
