The team for this role is located in Seattle. If you are already located in Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, or Los Angeles, you can work remotely from that location. However, if you are located elsewhere, you must be open to relocating to Seattle once employees return to the office.

The Senior Engineer 2 is part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems and solutions. These technology products and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business. The scope, responsibility and accountability are at the solution level.

You will be part of Nordstrom’s Supply Chain Fulfillment Platform Team. This team builds REST-based and message-based, scalable micro-services to route and fulfill all Nordstrom full-price and off-price web orders and is a key innovation space for Nordstrom’s ecommerce business growth. You will partner with program and product managers, business analytics and data science engineers to architect, design and implement solutions to handle millions of transactions. This team’s work directly contributes to the company’s multi-pronged business objectives to attract more customers by fulfilling their orders efficiently and on time, continuously improve customer experience, and increase profitability.

A day in the life…

• Responsible for feature design across components and services; opportunities to lead design and evaluate designs of other engineers

• Responsible for implementing complex features with clear business and customer outcomes; opportunities to be technical lead within feature crew(s)

• Influence quality standards and understand, identify, measure success metrics across entire solution

• Influence and maintain strong DevOps ownership and culture within the team

• Mentor junior members within the team and across teams on design, coding and DevOps standards

• Identify performance issues and optimize solutions

• Demonstrate strong knowledge of security coding practices and secure system fundamentals

You own this if you have…

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS, Engineering

• 6+ years professional experience as a software development engineer

• 3+ years of experience having actively used Java to write production code

• In the last 5 years, experience in full SDLC for 2+ cloud services at scale (minimum 10s of TPS), having led and contributed to design, development, validation, deployment and monitoring of several features for those services

• 5+ years of experience in collaborating with other disciplines like program management and product management to deliver features 

• Prior software development work experience in supply chain technology at a large retail company is a bonus

• Knowledge in event driven design and implementation patterns, containers and micro-services, REST APIs, AWS are a bonus
