We are a close-knit product development team of 33 engineers, PMs and data scientists, tackling technical problems around scaling, rapid user acquisition, machine learning and optimization challenges for a high-growth, VC-backed business, every single day. About the Role:

In collaboration with the VP of Engineering, Fooda is looking for a passionate engineering leader to grow our Popup and Food Hall businesses by increasing customer engagement and conversion rates. Popup Restaurants and Food Hall are rapidly growing core Fooda businesses and the technology team is focused on both sides of our marketplace: Our diners growing 3x YoY and our network of 1,000+ restaurants in nineteen cities. The features you will build will touch up to 500 transactions per minute and will generate millions in revenue, but most importantly, will bring the best lunch to our users at work. What you'll be doing:

  • Growing and developing an incredible team of 8-16+ talented and motivated engineers with high expectation around ownership and impact
  • Implementing an “engineering leads” model and nurturing talent as the team grows. May manage other Engineering Managers depending on growth of this team
  • Partnering with product, design, marketing, and stakeholders to manage scope and deliverables for the technical side of the product roadmap 
  • Iterating quickly with small teams of developers
  • Setting clear expectations for team members; actively soliciting, synthesizing, and delivering feedback; creating an open and transparent environment that is welcoming and appreciative of feedback
  • Leading delivery of major initiatives on clear timelines with incremental milestones
  • Leading improvements to the process of building software and managing technical debt for the team
  • Defining scope and breaking problems into sprints, estimating timelines and being flexible as changes arise
  • Wearing many hats! Depending on the projects your team is tackling, you’ll play some combination of technical lead, project manager, product leader, and guide

What You Should Already Have:

  • You have 8+ years of backend engineering experience (experience with Ruby on Rails, eCommerce systems and event driven architecture are a huge plus)
  • 4+ years of experience managing and mentoring engineers of varying experience and seniority
  • Experience working within a product engineering team and a track record of contributing to and leading projects
  • Comfortable balancing people management with technical leadership, including driving design discussions, participating in code reviews, and conducting technical interviews
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication
  • You are data driven, pragmatic, results-focused, and capable of leading and inspiring diverse groups of engineers to accomplish complex projects
  • You’re technical enough to ask engineers good questions about architecture and product decisions
  • Proven ability to recruit, hire, train, and aggressively grow organizations

Our office is a convenient 6 minute walk from Ogilvie and Union train stations and a 3 minute walk from the Washington/Wells Brown line stop.
