Job Summary
The Senior Engineering Project Team Leader within the Advanced Power Products team will provide technical leadership to the Power Systems and Controls team specific to microgrid power system integration, new technology development related to site control systems, and site power system architecture. Technologies related to this role will include but not be limited to energy storage, power conversion, electric vehicle charging, fuel cell power systems, and control system algorithms.
Job Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
The Senior Engineering Project Team leader is recognized as one of the best in the company in a technical specialty. Product influence expands to vehicle concepts, product line concepts, and process systems concepts. In addition to demonstrating a mastery of engineering concepts, this position may be expected to lead a project or program to completion. However, major focus is on technical delivery. Direct work with other units, suppliers, customers, dealers and teams requires the incumbent demonstrate skill in negotiation, building consensus and achieving compromise. Impact of decisions made by this position may be far-reaching, to include the project team or immediate work group, division and/or business unit, suppliers, internal and external customers, and Caterpillar markets. Decisions may significantly impact product performance, durability, reliability, quality, and serviceability; warranty; cost of non-quality; patents; products or processes; technology; costs; sales; and customer perceptions or may lead revolutionary technology change.
Key Areas of Responsibility including the following:

  • Lead technology development projects to support microgrid and power conversion system product introduction.
  • Act as a technical adviser and subject matter expert for the Power Systems and Controls team.
  • Work with market facing organizations to support customer project development.
  • Perform concept feasibility analysis to evaluate key components, sub-system, and system technology options and trade-off's.
  • Develop overall performance acceptance criteria for product; use latest VPD and simulations tools to evaluate different concepts and recommend prime path.
  • Lead a small team of engineers to work on several projects that make impact for Caterpillar machines performance and controls features.


Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 12 years of experience
  • Master's or PhD in mechanical engineering with 8 years of experience
  • Incumbents have usually gained 10 plus years of experience, have an extensive understanding of complex engineering concepts and applications and have generally developed an area of expertise that gains them recognition as one of the best in the company
  • Requires a self-starter with strong technical leadership skills.
  • Must have ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well employees in other units, customers and suppliers.
