Job Description: Senior Java Technology Consultant

Team : Alternative Assets

Northern Trust is looking for enthusiastic and dynamic individuals to join our Alternative Asset Technology application development team. This individual as part of an Agile development team, will be responsible for developing applications with group of like-minded technologists. The C&IS Technology Department is looking for a self-motivated, enthusiastic, nimble, and pragmatic individual with a digital mind-set to join our team as a Software Development Engineer.

What You Will Do:

As an engineer within our team, you will be responsible for collaborating with business stakeholders and writing quality, accurate, testable code within a carefully considered, robust architecture. You will work with a geographically dispersed, agile team to effectively translate requirements into solutions and seamlessly interface with business partners and technical staff. We are looking for an individual that has experience as a full stack Sr. Java developer who can play a vital role in developing applications leveraging Java/Microservices with a passion for growing skills as well as solving complex and challenging problems.

Key Knowledge and Skills:

  • BS in Computer Science or related field of study or equivalent experience
  • 8 to 10 years of professional experience in software development using Java
  • Hands-on DevOps experience developing and delivering products in a collaborative, agile team environment
  • Extensive knowledge of Java, Java web applications, and modern Spring Frameworks (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud Services, Spring Security, etc.)
  • Extensive experience developing Microservices architecture
  • Strong understanding of Object Oriented technology and standard Java development frameworks, including OOD and OOP skills
  • Strong Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) experience using Bamboo or any other CI/CD tool
  • Experience with extreme programming (XP) practices (TDD/BDD, CI/CD, paired programming, etc.)
  • Experience with modern web application frameworks (AngularJS, ReactJS, Drupal, etc.)
  • Experience in using IDEs like Eclipse 3.x, IntelliJ IDEA
  • Experience with pragmatically matching technical solutions to business needs
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and coaching skills

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience with microservice architectures
  • Experience with containerization and container orchestration technologies (e.g. Kubernetes)
  • Experience implementing a role-based security model and configure permissions and privileges
  • Experience developing enterprise applications that support high traffic volumes
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (PCF, AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Experience with MarkLogic-specific development and application architecture design and implementation (i.e., Write XPath expressions; Manage and search data across multiple languages; XQuery; JavaScript; Use of MarkLogic Java and REST APIs)
  • Practical understanding of Domain Driven Design concepts
  • Mentor and grow other software engineers
