Then we have a great opportunity for you to join Caterpillar's Peoria Proving Ground (PPG) as a Senior Machine Development Engineer!
In this exciting career boosting role, you will get to coordinate and execute the test & development activities of Medium Wheel Loader (MWL) and Motor Grader (MG) products including total machine, subsystem and component evaluations. You will provide logistical, technical, and hands-on machine expertise in support of new product development programs and projects. You will execute instrumented and non-instrumented tests, analyze acquired data to varying degrees, draw conclusions, & report out to clients or to other Machine Development Engineers. In this role, you will need to be comfortable getting out in the elements while working on and around the machines! As a Machine Development Engineer at PPG, you will spend approximately 75% of your time outside or on the shop floor collaborating with:

• Machine Operators to apply activities to test new machine operation conditions and/or replicate field failures on existing machines to acquire data for product improvement recommendations.
• Mechanics to assist in executing specific work orders for machines or on from the ground machine build projects.
• Instrument Technician in specifying the channel list, sensor placement and sensor load/conditions.

In addition, in this role you can expect to:

• Plan, coordinate, and execute the test & development of Medium Wheel Loaders and Motor Graders on various NPI (New Product Introduction), CPI (Continuous Product Improvement), NTI (New Technology Introduction) and research programs & projects.
• Conduct total machine evaluations along with sub-systems and component evaluations.
• Participate in the PPG team environment performing logistical, technical, and hands-on machine expertise in support of other team programs/projects.

To be successful you must bring (basic qualifications):

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a similar Engineering discipline.
• Mechanical aptitude and skills gained through hands-on experience with the maintenance or repair of farm, construction, or automotive equipment/machines.
• At least 5 years of experience in product and/or component development.
• Previous test experience with machines, engines, hydraulics, and/or powertrains
• Effective communication skills as demonstrated through interactions with other development engineers, instrument technicians, shop mechanics, machine operators, design engineers, suppliers, and dealer personnel.
• A strong passion for construction or similar equipment and an equally strong desire to improve this equipment through sound development, validation, and problem resolution.
• Must have excellent analytical skills and the ability to perform complex assignments
• Strong technical leadership skills.
• A demonstrated ability to execute, and report validation activities and findings
• A demonstrated ability to communicate technical information concisely and accurately. A demonstrated ability to effectively troubleshoot complex systems including the ability to read and understand prints and schematics.

Top Candidates will also have (desired qualifications but not required):

• A general working knowledge of data acquisition equipment, instruments, various internal/external analysis software and a strong willingness to learn.
• Knowledge & experience in the use of engineering systems.
• Experience working at equipment proving ground facilities.
• Experience operating heavy equipment and/or machinery.

This position requires up to 10% domestic and international travel to offsite test locations that provide or simulate harsh operating conditions.
This position also plays a key role in supporting, sometimes, aggressive development schedules and requires willingness to work extended hours if the job requires.
