Intelsat has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer role who will help us design and develop our next generation airline services platform. You will be part of the team that is building a globally deployed platform for our customers using some best-in-class software technologies.
Your role in helping us shape the future:
Intelsat has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer role who will help us design and develop our next generation airline services platform. You will be part of the team that is building a globally deployed platform for our customers using some best-in-class software technologies.
The ideal candidate for this role will have strong core Java skills and a solid understanding of building and deploying micro-services. You will be a crucial working member of multi-disciplinary, highly skilled technical teams that design, develop, test, debug and document software, by providing high quality technical solutions and services that deliver business value and drive continuous improvement across the organization. This role is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, of 3 days in office per week.
Are you up to the challenge?

Design and develop globally deployed cloud based micro-services solutions with high availability.
Be responsible for current software development practices and principles to identify and implement process improvements.
Work with micro-services teams on RESTful API designs - assist with future scripted API's and web socket investigations

You should definitely have:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline
3+ years of experience in systems implementation with a focus on both custom web/mobile application development & commercial software systems implementations; along with experience in multiple technical disciplines required (development, QA, DevOps, etc)
Strong Core JAVA Skills, MicroServices, Rest API, Spring, Hibernate, Web sockets, CICD
Build traditional and server less applications on an AWS Platform including EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB, and S3. Solid experience with SQL/NoSQL and cloud based technologies.
Good experience with manual and automation testing with tools like Selenium
Use of test management and bug management tools like Zephyr and JIRA.
Strong knowledge on CI tools like Jenkins to align with Dev-Ops Deployment process.
Ability to work independently or as part of a larger global development team in agile.
Willingness to learn new technologies and demonstrate commitment to excellence for the continuous improvement of our products, code base, processes, and tools.
Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) work environments

It would be nice if you had:

Experience in containerization with Docker or Kubernetes will be an advantage and bonus.
Experience in React JS, Redux, Modular CSS, Javascript.

Wanting to capitalize on her aviation experience, Abigail Schmidt joined Intelsat upon graduating college. At Intelsat, she has found herself in an environment encouraging her growth. “My manager has been supportive of me and the aspirations that I have for myself,” Schmidt said. For Schmidt — who is working on projects like equipping Alaskan Airlines’ Boeing B737-8 aircraft with a 2KU antenna system — those aspirations include her current pursuit of a master’s degree from Boston University, an endeavor for which Schmidt said she has received “amazing” support from Intelsat.

I am always wanting a challenge. I have been lucky to have a manager that is willing to give me projects that challenge me and make me a better project engineer.

Want to test your talents? You could fit well on Erica Johnson’s team. “If you love a challenge, supply chain is the place to be, especially now,” said Intelsat’s director of supply chain delivery. According to Johnson, leading a team that is focused on the punctual delivery and execution of entertainment and in-flight connectivity installation kits requires ample cross-functional collaboration — a depth of involvement she finds fulfilling. “The best thing about our day is the fact that we get to interact throughout all milestones of a program,” she said, adding, “This is very rewarding!

Not only do we get to see the fruits of our work, but we also get to interact with a variety of internal teams, customers and vendors — which makes for an exciting and quick workday.

Sandeep Munagala

Principal Developer, Business Intelligence

PAINT THE BIG PICTURE

Employ technology to achieve excellence

As principal business intelligence developer, Sandeep Munagala leverages tools like Tableau to manage enterprise reporting and dashboards in important areas of Intelsat like commercial aviation. Taking a strategic approach to business intelligence has been instrumental for projects like equipping Intelsat’s quality organization with a “scorecard” of insightful and relevant metrics on their vendors and suppliers. “This information helps users and the organization evaluate vendor and supplier performance and drive more meaningful conversations on efficiency and improvement,” Munagala said.

We have a number of key initiatives underway to improve the inflight customer experience and Tableau has helped us uncover areas of opportunity in how passengers use our services.
