Of course, local merchants aren’t the only ones who will benefit from your work—you will too. We are looking for outstanding software engineers excited by the challenge of building Groupon’s logging platform which is used by the entire company.

We work as part of Groupon’s Engineering Excellence team to architect a logging platform and tools needed to improve logging infrastructure at Groupon and moving the logging platform to AWS. Our team is a pioneer in using the ELK infrastructure for Logging at a massive scale and we are looking for a talented and passionate engineer join our logging team in Bangalore.

 

In this role you will be part of a team of engineers focused on ensuring platform readiness (performance, capacity, stability, latency) and building developer tools. You will work with application owners to understand their needs and define requirements for enhancement requests. The role involves working with cutting-edge technology and solving challenging technical problems. The capabilities we are building will be used by every engineering team at Groupon, and this is your chance to influence how software is built and deployed at a company-wide scale.

 

The engineer’s primary responsibilities include developing self service solutions, maintaining system operations, providing user support, PagerDuty rotation and promoting internal standards, procedures, and policies.  Strong sense of ownership, intellectual curiosity and love of problem-solving with a passion for getting involved to drive action for direct impact on business outcomes.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in improving our Logging architecture and improving our monitoring capabilities in order to continually build a robust ELK platform for Logging.

  • Solve complex technical questions/problems in an highly dynamic operations environment and demonstrate great problem solving abilities

  • Build automation for repetitive tasks and for reducing touch operations

  • Design solutions to facilitate self-service by our platform users

  • Develop optimized Kibana queries and dashboards and enable customers to develop their own by documenting best practices.

  • Work closely with other Engineering teams and users of our Big Data logging platform to plan and coordinate efforts to achieve optimal data analysis for the global user community

  • Understand Groupon’s data pipelines and make recommendations based on business use cases.

  • Conduct 1:1 and group training, as required, to advance the platform knowledge and skills of our global user base

  • Ensure partnerships with engineering teams to understand their applications (services) and logging needs, and help them adhere to solid log design for success and stability of the platform

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience with development and understanding of Logging system is preferred (Elastic Logstash Kibana, Kafka, etc) .

  • Experience with Big Data systems, open-source technologies preferred.

  • Strategic thinker that is forward-looking, thinks about the big picture, connects the dots and identifies inter-relationships between business elements

  • Experience and a deep understanding of both structured and non- (or semi-) structured data.

  • Clear evidence of analytical, problem solving, and strong logical thinking skills.

  • Strong sense of ownership and attitude to get things done the right way.

  • Great understanding of architectural choices and role of various components in an architecture.

  • Experience with DSL Query language, Python & Ruby

  • Experience with provisioning using Ansible

  • This role involves tasks related to operational maintenance and tuning.

  • Familiarity with JIRA, Nagios, Git, YAML, Ansible, LDAP, and distributed Linux based infrastructure systems and internals (kernel/libraries, filesystems, package management, etc.)
