WHO WE ARE:  SwipeSense is building an operating system for the hospital of the future, today. Our mission is to eliminate Hospital Acquired Infections, a leading cause of death in the United States, through several products built on top of our connected hospital platform - a combination of sensor networks, wearable technologies, and big data insights. Our platform saves a life every two days, but we're just getting started. If you want to solve problems big and small, experiment relentlessly, and execute ruthlessly to help us save a life a day: welcome.

WHO WE NEED: We are looking for engineers who want to build forward-thinking non-legacy systems that utilize the latest and greatest in open-source distributed computing technologies. At SwipeSense, we build products with massive scale in mind, and you should be excited to imagine and integrate best-practices for distributed computation on large clusters. We have a small tight-knit team and are looking for members who are wholly devoted to fostering cooperation, learning and coordination between development and ops functions. You should get really excited about building relationships, processes and tools. Finally, we love self-motivated and self-sufficient engineers who continue the learning process outside work purely for the joy of discovery.

PRIMARY ROLE:

You will also be the primary facilitator between the devs and the infrastructure that runs their apps, streamlining the deployment process and providing clarity around the demands that their code puts on the infrastructure at scale.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build and deploy stuff. Monitor and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Be awesomely vigilant and aware of new security threats. Recommend and implement new security technologies and policies.
  • Monitoring resource utilization, plan for growth. Capacity planning.
  • Database stuff. You’ll advise developers on schema changes, optimize performance.
  • Production support. Yes, this means occasional pager duty.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience scaling and building with AWS-based infrastructure. Specifically experience with EC2, S3, Cloudfront, RDS, and Elasticache.
  • Thorough understanding of networking and AWS security groups.
  • Configuration management (We use Chef, but strong Puppet, Salt or Ansible experience is good).
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails and Node/Webpack deployments.
  • Strong shell scripting.
  • Experience with monitoring a large distributed system.
  • Databases, like MySQL and Cassandra.
  • Debian GNU/Linux or Ubuntu.
  • Ability to stay (relatively) calm and amazingly effective in the face of unexpected change.

NICE TO HAVES:

  • Experience with containerization of apps with Docker as well as docker-based app infrastructures like Amazon ECS.
  • Cluster management tools such as Mesos, Swarm, or, Kubernetes.
  • Building or managing map-reduce type applications.

TOOLS WE USE:

If you’ve ever contributed to an open-source project on GitHub, you’ll be right at home at SwipeSense.

  • Git/Github for version control and code review
  • Pivotal for agile project management and bug tracking
  • Slack for communication.
  • CircleCI for continuous integration and automated testing
