Job Description
Nordstrom Styling is looking for an Engineer Sr. 1 to join our technology team. Engineer Senior 1’s are technically proficient individual contributors and inclusive leaders on their team. They are typically responsible for outlining work beyond the scope of a single unit and mentoring other engineers across a wide spectrum of activities as needed.
The Customer Style Profile team mission is to provide engaging digital experiences that personalize our service for customers on an ongoing basis, so we understand and promote their unique style throughout their customer journey. The team is responsible for creating experiences that engage the customer and give them opportunities to express their style. They’re also responsible for handling the data handoff to internal tools that allow our Styling and Data Science teams to provide a more personalized and dynamic experience for customers. As a part of this team, you will have the opportunity to help design and build our robust Customer Style Profile platform.
Tech stack
Our team primarily uses React for our frontend and a good majority of our backend services are built using Ruby. These are not hard requirements, but we are looking for someone that is willing to work in these frameworks and can bring their skills to help us achieve our goals.

Core Skills
Experience in developing backend services and building fault tolerant, scalable applications.
Understands microservices architectures and has experience building them
Takes responsibility of systems or designs that span multiple people's work, breaking work into smaller tasks for the team.
Pair and Collaborate with other developers on the team to build great solutions.
Ensures their work and that of their team members follows the engineering and security standards; contributes to the standards.
Mentor junior team members on the best coding techniques and how/why coding standards fit into architecture goals.
Work with Product Managers and Designers to translate business needs into technical solutions.
Familiar with standard industry practices for work tracking to ensure work is consistent, measurable, and within stated goals.
Able to make technical tradeoffs between short term needs and long-term business needs.
Additional Skills
Prior experience with Ruby, React is a plus
Familiarity with Docker containers and AWS Ecosystem is a plus
Knowledge of Event Driven Architecture is a plus
