Caterpillar's Industrial Power Systems Division's (IPSD) Engine Systems Integration Performance & Simulation Team in Mossville, IL, is looking for a person to serve as engine systems certification senior engineer in our Power Systems Development Center.
As the Sr. Engineer- Technical Regulatory Compliance, the successful candidate will act as an I-6 diesel engine/aftertreatment system certification senior engineer, responsible for the certification and audit test preparation, results documentation, engine system controls documentation, and analysis of engine emissions test data for certification documentation of complex engine/aftertreatment system recipes for IPSD's 7.2-liter through 18-liter machine and commercial product offerings.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
* Analyze diesel engine/aftertreatment performance and emissions test results. Compile test results for certification documentation purposes.
* Analyze engine controls and software strategies. Compile documentation of controls strategies for certification documentation purposes to fulfill the requirements of regulatory agencies.
* Prepare engine system certification and audit test plans.
* Organize and procure engine and aftertreatment hardware for testing purposes.
* Contribute to the identification, analysis, and resolution of needs and problems in a discipline for which you are beginning to build a reputation as an expert
* Perform complex analysis work, identifies, and solves problems
* Technical delivery
* Evaluate products and processes
* Perform needs analysis and initiate ideas
* Support Built-In-Quality (BIQ) efforts to improve development process efficiencies
* Keep up to date on new technologies or develop new technologies
* Communicate technical information to customers, team members, suppliers, and other business units
* Support and advise other engineers, managers, marketing personnel, dealers, customers, and suppliers
* Develop and maintain a keen understanding of internal and external customers' needs
Required Qualifications:
- Education - Bachelor degree in an accredited Engineering field
- General Experience - 4+ years experience in the Engineering field.
- Specialized Experience - 2+ years of engine performance development/simulation, aftertreatment performance development, mechatronics, software/controls development, and/or engine emissions regulatory requirements
- Excellent analytical skills
- Ability to perform complex assignments
- Self-starter with strong technical leadership skills
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in work group, as well as employees in other units, customers, and suppliers
Top Candidates Will Have:
- Master degree (or equivalent) in an accredited Engineering curriculum
- Detailed 1D/0D engine performance simulation knowledge
- Experience of Engine System controls development
- A willingness to work on a broad range of engine applications
- A sense of urgency balanced with a strong commitment to quality
- The ability to effectively develop and manage complex project plans, starting at concept and ending at final engine product
- The ability to work/lead multiple projects simultaneously and to make sound priority decisions
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more components or systems
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in work group, as well as employees in other units, customers, and suppliers.
